Default 3.6 coilovers

As much as I love this car, there is no getting away from the fact that the handling is very average compared to modern day stuff. ( My Range Rover sport has a better turn in lol)

My shocks look original, but I have the H&R red lowering springs (fitted by a previous owner).

What is the best coilover for street use for the car. Have seen the Bilstein PSS9, also KW do a Variant 3 for the car. I don't want to spend big money on Motons/Intrax etc, as I will not use this car on track.

Also, tyres..... Am running the original Pirelli Zeros.. what can be fitted to give some more grip, or are the Pirellis the best for the car?

Cheers
Rob

Michelin Pilot Sports all day long in my book, have them on mine and they've performed well. Noise is ok, grip is good and wear rate is excellent. Sorry can't help on the shocks front.

For street go with PSS9 but if you plan on tracking for a little more money go with the KW.

Do 285 or 295/30 tires in rear as well.

JIC's and bigger tires to go along with a corner balance and alignment. Can't really argue which tire to go with, I prefer Bridgestone products.

As i said IMO the PSS9's are a waste and I prefer the Bilstein HD H&R reds over the PSS9 unless you plan on doing full track than look into the JIC cross and up for performance. BTW lets be serious nothing has worse turn in than an RR.

The problem is the factory shocks suck. More than likely the shocks are original. The boge's have a tendency to seize and create a very poor handling condition. Factory shocks have been known to fail as early as 13k miles. They get very stiff before they loose any dampening altogether and then you are just riding on springs.

Since you have the reds it is a cheap install to do the Bilsteins and a proper alignment. I like to run a little negative camber even on the street. If you don't like them you can always sell them and do something different. If you plan on running on the street I would recommend against anything more severe than the HD's. IMO the PSS9's have a very soft initial spring and then the primary spring is too hard making for a strange variation in handling depending on if the system is preloaded into the turns.

IMO the Perelli's are one of the worst tires out there for these cars. I have a set and hate them, only use them for car shows. I am running MPSC2's and they are far superior under all conditions. Some like the S02's which I had and IMO the MPSC2's are again superior. If you don't plan on driving in the rain you can always run a MPSC/ RA1/R888 or other R compound tire. You won't have any issue with grip on the street. I think if you make the changes in shocks and tires you will see a major improvement however don't forget the 964 has the slowest rack used on any 911. It is something that takes a little getting used to but once understood is something you will appreciate in this car.

A properly set up 965 is a dream to drive. If not than you need to look into the alignment and shocks.

+1 on the bilstein hd's with h&r springs(great value and quality),run more camber all round(especially on front)something similar to the 3.6 "s" geometry settings, having some downrake towards front in there so when the power comes in the car flattens out!
Tyres, i have pirelli p zeros and find them good even and on track they performed fine although would be tempted with Toyo r888's next time especially as my car is mainly only used in the dry!!

I went from the H&R coil-over to the new PSS10's. The new PSS10's are a major inprovement. The new adjustments are very very easy. I also have Ruf sway bars and Mich Pilot Sport Cups. I have been up to the mountains in NC a few times this summer, and ran The Dragon two weeks ago with a new GT3. I ended up softening the front a bit, and then it truly handled great and I was able to use the power as intended. The rebound was perfect in my opinion.

As mentioned before I had KW make a set for my car. Mine are probably a bit harsh for day to day driving, before the KW I had Roock progressive setup. That was great for normal road stuff. I would defo change the roll bars to RSR bars.

Do you know the differences between the PSS10's & the PSS9's? I was told initially it was just how they adjusted but now I am hearing it is a considerable change.
