The 3.6T is about the same as a 993tt. I am talking about cars with stock engines, stock boost, but headers and straight exhausts.

Here's some video from various tracks I raced with comparisons: '91 964t speed comparison

My wife and I were at the Glen last weekend for a DE; an instructor took out a friend's RS America to see why it was driving right. The RS came back into the paddock on a tow truck with pretty significant damage. My wife looks at me and says, "Who would you let drive your car?" I replied the list is short and I don't know if you met this guy. We saw his car at the Daytona club race last year; he had the red car like mine... Maybe next year at the Glen we can meet for a DE

Wow... there are alot of info and opinions here. I would definitely agree the 965 has the classic lines and flares that would never fades. I have a 993 daily driver now. Any one use theirs as a daily driver?

On the NA 964 and 993s, one of the main reliability weakness is premature valve guide wear. I talked to many techs, and experienced it on my cars. When (hahaha...not if) I get a 965, it will be a daily driver. (I just can't imagine having hot/supercar and not being able to enjoy it at every opportunity.) Are there any one here with one above 100K miles? What repairs have needs to be one for these car at about or above 100K miles?

thanks,
anthony

axl911/Anthony,
Yes, I am one of those rare people who uses his 965 as a daily driver. (In fact I had 2 x 3.2's before as DD's). It is a great pleasure to do so. Mine currently has 82000 miles, I do around 15K a year.
The only downside is cost of running. Petrol, maintenance all add up.
My car has had loads done to it including rebuilt aircon, some bodywork, leaking pipes, etc. not to mention the mods (see my signature). But these would also apply for any 911 I guess.

My 965 costs me FAR more to run than my Carreras. but that is probably down to being unlucky in buying a not perfect car. I'd also say that the 1988 3.2 was one of the most bullet proof (and easy to work on) 911's ever, and the later the car the more complex and weaker build. If I had my time again, I'd have stuck with a 3.2 but the 965 gets me on looks and unbelievable performance. (I had to make it louder and harder though!)

In conclusion, if you have some money available for the running costs (deep pockets) then you'll love driving it every opportunity you get.

PS: I have never driven a 993, but tested a 996's (C4 and GT3) - old skool is best

A lot of great cars fell into my target price, and my latest purchase ('92 965) reflects my decision. I sold an absurdly-fast Stg 3+ Audi S4 last year because for all it's power, it lacked real character. Two previous 911s; an '89 3.2 and '71t, plus a friend's revolving 911 collection spoiled me for real character.
I assumed a 993 C2 was my logical-progression next car, until I drove a few. Not an appliance like a 996, but more refined than I wanted. I seriously considered another 3.2 with a monster-mod budget, but I'm quite happy with the balance this 965 strikes between snorty-old-school and civilized and contemporary. Tuning this thing is a big step backwards from my laptop and 40-channel OBDII logging software to an AF and boost gauge, but I geek enough at work.
