Just get the Porsche unit. Very inexpensive and works perfectly...

The short shifter moves the shifter up so it is about 1" taller than the stock shifter which places it closer to the steering wheel. It also shortens the throws by about 30%. You can order the two pieces from your local Porsche dealer. The part numbers are:

964.424.015.08 - Gear shift lever
964.424.017.01 - Fork

Installation takes an hour or two.

I have had the Ruf short-shifter on my 964 turbo since 1993. Longer lever, closer to steering wheel. It works great and I absolutely love it. Never a problem! It was installed by Sol Snyderman in Libertyville, IL, when he was a Ruf dealer. He can still hook you up with a short shift kit that will do the job.

I know this thread is quite old, but does anyone have this short shift fitted to their turbo? I have a 1991 UK model turbo and would like a short shifter mainly because I am tall and dont want to stretch so much to get to the gear lever (if I pull my seat closer my knees hit the dash).

I read some threads about the RS short shift not fitting 'early' cars. If anyone knows if this one would fit my car that would be very helpful.

Thanks, Josh

Have a short shift on mine, but not sure which one. You welcome to check it out and see if it make much of a difference.

Josh, if your car is a 1991 model, chances are you have to do this modification to make it work https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...hort+shift+kit. This is for the RS kit Geoffery mentioned. It is a fairly straight forward job, just take your time and have fun, the outcome is worth the effort.
I ordered my parts from Sunset Porsche in Oregon, about $100.00, no affiliation

Thanks for clarifying that the kit Geoffrey mentions is in fact the RS short shift, and for the helpful post on how to modify the car to make it fit.

That modification is beyond my means, but I could get my mechanic to do it. Are there any other short shift kits that would fit my car without any drilling/cutting?

I've had the Ruf unit in my '91 for more since its second birthday - some 18 years. Has always worked flawlessly.

Rothsport, no affiliation, has one, a lot more $$, lots of good feedback, give them a call and check for fitment.

Thanks. I am UK based and have found these options at one of our parts dealers:
http://www.porscheshop.co.uk/acatalo..._upgrades.html

Quite a price difference between the B&M kit and the standard kit! I will phone them and ask if they fit a '91 turbo with no cutting/grinding.
