Default PS Pump leak at rear of car...gurgling :)

My suspicion is that one of the exterior seals have failed: anyone know of a DYI rebuild kit or a good source for rebuilt pumps??

you can purchase a power steering pump seal kit from a company in milam oh. for about $ 18.00 the company is FREUDENBERG-NOK CORTECO 11617 State Route 13 Milam OH.44846 the part # is 8467. pull up a parts exploded view from one the internet sites and it is not that difficult remove and install seals

Is this a common thing to have happen? On cold days, my pump takes a few turns of the steering wheel to get the power steering to function.

Default PS pump rebuild

Calling them now, so far they're clueless, but Since I'm on hold, I might as well type this out right??

Mine leaks around the right side of the engine until it starts moaning from air in the system. I've topped it off twice in 3 weeks, so It's failing, but not totally shot. Hmmm...still on hold, 7m & counting.

I guess I'll do the PS belt since I'm in there since it's original with 134k on it.

La de da...getting bored, I'll stop typing now until they come back...

Ok, I gotta call another Number, I'll chime back.

What I meant is; my steering acts up on cold days and I am scared this is going to be my pumps destiny... Any update?

Do you mean that your fluid level is slowly dropping, or do you actually have a leak on the ground??

My fluid level was slowly dropping, and the pump started that gurgling sound, (but no external leaks) topped the fluid up and the gurgling stopped. The fluid was leaking past the seals in the PS rack and into the boots (thats why you couldnt see an external leak)

I have now had the rack removed and reconditioned, new seals and re-chomed shaft.

Yeah, this is where I would look for leaks as well.
Also common that the boots break (I changed both mine) with the risk of getting dirt into the steering rack, breakage of seals or worse.

Default fluids

the front of my car is dry, had to top-off 2x now, & have notable fluid on the right side under the car. Pressuring washing everything this weekend so I can see if it's the correct color for PS fluid: but I know it is.

A friend of mine has removed his ps pump from his 964 n/a, I think it's for sale.
Let me know if you are interested and I'll let him know (he is a Rennlister too), on the other side of the "pond" from your perspective though....
