Fuel Pipe Replacement Question
My car has sprung a leak in the main fuel line (the most expensive one of course, full length). The garage says it will probably need to drop the engine and gearbox to get the pipe in = full day's labour!
Is this true? Anyone have any experience?

You seem to have run into a few of these unique cases lately. I am going to call the local dealer hear by me; they have two top Porsche factory mecahcnics...

I have a call in to them... If you are pulling your engine, it's time to think about maybe clutch/lightweight fly wheel time and maybe cams I'll keep you posted.

"Mark, you really are being unlucky with this car!"
I've been on the brink of selling it so many times, but have done so much to it, I keep thinking "now it must be up to scratch"... there's always something!
dholling,
I'd really appreciate your mechanic's opinion. By the way, it has a new clutch about a year ago (if the dealer is to be believed!) and it performs fine. I am interested in LFW but another time.
PS: g-pipe back on today so is back to straight-through and sounds great again ... pity I can't drive it just yet, work is booked in 2 weeks!!

Hi Mark,
Really sorry to hear about this - I really hope that that is it for the time being. As I said, perhaps you should consider it for weekend use only? I'm just hoping my imminent visit to my specialist won't be too expensive...
Cheers,
Tim.

Have spoken to my usual mechanic and he agrees the long pipe is a bugger to get in so dropping engine is the way to go. Whilst I don't want to do anything major (no cams, flywheels or motec...) I'm wondering if there are any stupid things that are sensible to replace while the engine (and gearbox) is dropped?

Mark that car is your problem child! That is why you love it so much! I will also have to drop the engine on the C4 for a new clutch and have already takne heed of the advice given here about things to change while you're at it..
Cheers

Now that my oil filter has been properly tightened (previous garage didn't do it up properly due to my Carrera headers making access difficult!) I don't have much by way of leaks. Previously I was losing more than a litre per 1000 miles, now it doesn't seem to lose any :-)
PS: I did notice my MPG was rather poor though, the fuel leak explains it, DOH!
