Default Wohoo, beaten only by 997turbo on dragstrip

Just got back from club meet at a dragstrip. Temperature was hot at 33 deg C.
My best time was 13.3sec (didnt want to fry clutch so not a full dump).

Amatuer to amatuer, was only beaten by 997 turbo tip which did 12.9 sec.
Time was equalled by 996 GT3RS and another modified turbo running motec

Beat all stock 965 3.6l and 993TT. 997 Carrera S was close. There were GT2s running but didn't notice their timing. Fastest of the day was 997turbo Mine's a 964turbo 3.3 running EFI and HFS turbo at 0.86 bar.

Small little things like that make me happy

Impressive. I'm also quite impressed with the 996gt3rs: speaks well of gearing and weight reduction.

Oh forgot to mention, didn't do too well in my first ever AutoX. Too much lag in 2nd gear and too twitchy in 1st. On the street I dont feel the lag as much.

Downshift from 2nd to 1st was not easy. Strange - always wondered why downshifts to 1st is always harder than other gears - experience this in all cars.

Congrats, although I find those numbers a bit slow overall. What speeds were you pulling at the 1/4. I recorded my stock GTS which is slow at a 13.3 second
1/4 with my Gtech meter and my turbo before any bolt on mods pulled a 12.9 1/4 with tire slippage on the same meter. I was trying not to damage the clutch so I had an awful 0-20 time of almost 2 seconds. I find my turbo walks away from the GTS. I thought my turbo could easily do much better and I would expect the 997TT to be much faster than 12.9. You should be able to out run a GT3 even an RS. They have power but not much torque.

I agree with Anthony. The 997tt tip should be able to do low 12's in its sleep. I ran a 12.8, 111 mph in my 993 TT with a mild launch on a 98 degree day on my first try. Nice run with a 964 3.3!

I know the overall time is not considered fast. For the HP that I got on dyno, I should be getting about 12.5sec for a perfect driver (based on calculators I found on the web). Exit speed for my run was about 180kmh

The numbers are from spectators watching and not from official time sheet. After the 997TT left no one got below 13sec (that was when I became a spectator).

The 2 996GT3RSs were pretty darn fast, serious!

Best 964 NAs were doing about 16.7sec

Gtech does not test your reflexes unless you used the countdown mode. Under normal mode it starts timing when you start moving ie. it simulates perfect reflexes.

Anyway it was a recreational event and we had loads of fun except for the swarms of mosquitoes

The drag strip does separate "reflexes" refered to as reaction time from the cars performance which is the ET or elapsed time. In an actual drag race you add the two to actually determine who crosses the finish line first. When refering to times/ET's your also eliminating the driver reflexes.

The cars "reflexes" in some combination with wheel diameter and depth of staging is measured in "roll out" . This is also taken into consideration with the G Tech. On the early models it might just be a generic number, but is adjustable in newer models.

I know you guys were doing it for fun, just wanted to clarify that both the lights at the strip and the G tech are trying to measure the same thing.

I saw a 965 in a tunner Mag.from New Jersey that drives to the strip and on that day ran a 10.00 pulling a 60 ft.whellie at 145 mi .hr. The artical said he normally runs high 9.0 - 10.0 TURBO & High - Tech Performance Issue (181) Feb. 2006

Well considering these cars are least known for their drag racing ability the numbers look great. I think you will find a truer test of the cars abilities to be in the 60-130 range. I find I will never win against most performance cars from a dead start. Now give me a rolling start and no contest.

I find in the GTS I can consistently run similar numbers with 13.3-13.5 1/4's all day long yet when I try the same thing in the turbo my numbers vary greatly. Much harder to launch the turbo from a dead start. I think it is because the GTS has so much more low end torque that comes on much earlier as were the turbo really is lacking until you hit a solid 3000 rpms. I find I have a hard time getting very good 0-20mph numbers in the turbo unless I drop the clutch which I don't like to do. I also find the GTS has a much slower trap speed and although it is relatively quick to the quarter it is not moving more than 105 mph were I see much higher numbers out of the turbo.
