Default Speedline Restoration

A couple of my wheels have laquer bubbling around the bolts etc and streaking onto the centres a bit.I searched the forum and found most issues discussed but one question my wheel restorer needs help with. The matt silver painted finish on the centres looks difficult to replicate - anyone have any tips please..

I have sent you a pm. These are my wheels after having them put back together, the rims polished and the bolts replated. I pulled the wheels apart myself and had the centers repowder coated. For the effort involved, next time, I would just pay the guy who did the work above, to do the whole lot.

bolts replated? I have a set of RS speedline 993 9 & 10 x 18 that need refinishing. Several bolts look like they are showing signs of surface rust, not too bad, but must be taken care of. Were they chrome bolts(steel) or stainless steel? Also I have one outside rim half that has several mild scrapes - do you know of a source for real Speedline rim halves?

thanks. Jim

Try FVD (http://www.fvd-web.com). Under "Wheel" & then "Spare Parts" they have the speedline outer rims for sale.

How did you polish the outer rim halves without rubbing off the 'Speedline for Porsche' etching?

Looks great, but the wheel bolts were not plated from the factory. I actually like the plated look better.

I have a new wet of wheels coming soon and was curious how much it cost to have your wheels reconditioned. I wasn't sure if I was going to sell the old set or not. Mine are in good shape but there is some minor damage to the clear coat on the outer lip and some minor cracking around some of the bolts.

How much is a set of speedlines in this condition worth?

I split the wheels myself and had the centers power coated. Adrian, who did the wheels, charged me £400 to dimond polish rims and put back together. There is an extra charge to 'keep' the speedline script. The photos really don't do the wheels justice. The bolts are plated from new but not with nickle which mine are.

On your wheels I would consider just splitting and using paint remover on the rims and putting back together.

Anthony,

Did you order the new wheels through a regular Porsche dealership or somewhere else? How long did you have to wait? What about cost? (if I may be so bold)

With all the potholes around here I've been thinking about a set for backup.

Thanks

Anthony:
Is that a weight on the outside of the wheel?

Jim:
I think the bolts on my Speedline RS are titanium.

So you had the bolts nickel plated, sure look better than the factory painted bolts, which is what my 993 RS wheels have. Thanks for all the input. Jim
