Not planning any track time, just looking for something for some spirited drives on Sunday mornings and my occasional day off.
Love the look and excitement of the 965 (had a '92 that I should have never sold), but I sure enjoy the creature comforts and warranty of the 997S.
Any thoughts?

The 997 will depreciate faster than you can spend lavishly on a 965! If you dont need a daily driver the turbo is more fun.If you like creature comforts try and find a nice 3.6. I prefer dealing with a good independent than an OPC.

Turbos are not for everyone. If you are looking for creature comforts and a relatively easy car to drive buy the 997S. They are a major improvement over the 996. If you want bad *** fun that gets your adrenaline flowing by just climbing behind the wheel and don't mind the kick in the paints punch and somewhat harsh ride of a turbo then a 94 3.6 is the way to go. The turbo makes you work hard and takes practice to get the most out of it. It is a true challenge but when you figure it out and get it right nothing puts a bigger smile on you r face. The 997S is easy to drive and with all the electronics you can look good, have fun and not be challenged the way the turbo does but still have a pleasurable experience. I would only buy it with the sport chrono.
The new 997S is fast, IMO very good looking with the Aero package and has all the bells and whistles. It will be worth more than a 996 will be after 10 years but will never retain value like the 964 turbos. If you like to be challenged and love the classic lines of the early single turbo cars the 94 turbo is the way to go.
Don't let me scare you off, the turbo is also very easy to drive around town, it just becomes a beast when your right foot goes horizontal.

Given this will be a weekend car, I would get the turbo. It will retain it's value far better, and is more fun to drive for short durations.
The 997 would be a far better daily driver -- better gas mileage, better stereo, heated seats, fancy electronic do-dads, better climate control, nav, etc.
