Default Slow Accelertaion, Turbo lag, and Exhaust noise

Ok Here is the story its a 1991 C2 Turbo, Had a wiring fire which has been repaired, Car starts and idles fine. Revs up pretty slow and sometimes pops in the intake. Take the car for a drive and its SLOW and the exhaust sounds like the exhuast is venting out. Along with that the turbo has horrible lag.

Does the wastegate vent to atmosphere?

What would cause the car to be so slow?

Is it possible the wastegate is stuck open?

Thanks!!

does this happen everytime? I have lag issue but only if i am cruising at slow revs and suddendly need to fly. boost takes ages to occur.

if i start from 1st gear to drive quickly i have no problem whatsoever.

Turbo knowledgeable guys will give you good clues, anyway.

I think that you need to check the compression and definately get a leakdown test. Backfires through the intake sound like valve guide/valve problems. The exhaust leak can be a broken head stud to exhaust leaks.. I'd take it into a established shop that works on 911 turbo's, and have them take a look.

Pops in the intake can also be a sign of running very lean. Better take to a specialist.

Lean is what I was thinking as well I usually work on VW's owning a VW restoration/service shop but that also seems to make me the aircooled porsche guy by defualt as well it seems lately. I guess since they share the same systems as many of the air and watercooled VW's. This is my first experience with a 964T but have delt with many N/A cars in the past. I have tons of experience with turbo cars just none with CIS and a turbo together so I am learning all there is to know about what issues and problems these cars have(many of which this car has) It came into the shop in boxes and a burnt wiring harness. I have spent may hours re soldering the wiring harness from a wiring short and the car now runs again(and all the electrics work) but now ironing out some issues that may have existed before the wiring fried. Thanks guys for your inputs.
