C2 Turbo Question
I am strongly considering a 30K mile 92 C2 Turbo. It is a very clean all original car. The complete 30K service was completed last year. The car has been stored for about a year with less than 100 miles accumulated during that time.
I was sold on the car until I looked below the engine and noticed what I would describe as a significant oil leak. The owner says that it's the valve cover seals. Could this be related to the fact that it has been sitting? Is this a major problem / area of concern with these cars?
If I pursue the car I will most definitely have a PPI performed, however, if this oil leaking problem coupled with the fact that it has been sitting are signs of major problems then I may have to keep looking.
Thanks for the help...

This past summer I purchased a clean '92.. The oring between the chain box and cam housing is weeping oil.. It drip one or two drips a night.. I'll fix it one day..
I would not walk away from a clean un-molested car just for a few leaks.. They can be fixed a little at a time, or when you drop the engine for the clutch. Get the PPI done and see what you have found.. But again I'd take the value of clean car over a few orings and gaskets.. Turbocharged engines generate alot of heat. And you will be amazed at how many cars have some sort of leak..
My car is very clean and run great but it does have some wetness from the valve covers on the left side too. I will fix it when it is time for another major service. It does drop about 1 or 2 drops a week, which is very little, and only when driven.

Sonny
Thank you for your very helpful comments.
This car seemed to be dropping quite a bit more than a couple drops. There were several drops hanging off ready to fall when I looked below - it definitely was significant. There was a piece of cardboard under the car that was throughly soaked. Having said that, as mentioned before, the car was extremely clean, all original, 100% stock with the protective coating still on the undercarriage. With a days cleaning and waxing, it would most definitely be a concourse candidate.
This sounds like the 92 Turbo with 30 K miles offered by performance Auto in St James, NY. It is Guards Red and prestine looking for $46,000. I may be interested as well but undecided. There are a lot of mods I can do with my C4. This one does look enticing.

However, oil leaks can be hard to trace, not allways that easy to tell where the oil originates from. If it only was a valve cover gasket, why is't it fixed, simple job ?
Personally I would have a leakdown test done and then take it for a hard drive and check underneath for oil leaks again.

It's not the car pictured above. As I posted earlier, I called on that car and found that they didn't have the original parts - which may not be a big deal for some.
