My Turbo 36 will not start - troubleshooting
Help please, I bought it 6 wks ago, its been in the garage for the past 4 wks. Driving along and it shut down like a switch was turned off. Had initial problems with stalling when braking and stopping at lights, seemed to do more when AC was on. Now, no spark at the plugs, no voltage at the coil, all fuses in luggage comp are good, fuses in engine bay are good. Was able to get a spark and had it running for 2 seconds with a jumper across the ignition control relay. Starter cranks very strong, battery is strong. During normal start procedures, I'm not getting voltage to the coil, no spark to the plugs, no voltage to the ignition control relay (in engine compartment). I think this is actually a timed relay to burn fuel after engine shut down. I've reviewed posts about immobilisers, dme relays (do I have one in this car? and where might it be located? can I reset it without having the car running?) Any tips on troubleshooting would be appreciated-

I had a similar problem once. Turned out it was the intercooler hose leaking. Car wouldn't start, and when it did it would cut out at the lights. Basically as soon as the car started to make boost it would cut out.

I would first check the main DME relay. If you look at the fuse/relay box from the front of the car, it is the furthest away relay (its set super-script style above the line of relays) that is one from the left. R41.
You can take the relay out and jump contacts 3,5 and 7 to see if that works.. If so, DME Relay is fried. If it is, take it apart and resolder if you feel confident, or get a new one ($30 or so, I just ordered a spare!).
And.. like every other post here - get Adrian Streather's book about 964's! Its already saved me a few hours of shop labor $$ by doing my own troubleshooting.
GOod luck,
Mike

Having trouble locating the DME relay. My slot in the front luggage area relay/fuse box for R41 is empty and shows that it should be empty according to the chart inside the lid of the fuse box. Here is a pic of my relay/fuse box (did they do something different in the 1994 T 36's?) Is the relay located somewhere else? This pic is taken from the US passenger side of the car-

What is the large "Jetronic" silver box under the drivers seat? Is it a brain of some sort? I've also got a large box in the luggage compartment on the US passengers side front, next to the spare- I should probably wait till my books arrive on Weds, but I'd like to try to solve the mystery of why I cant get it started right away-

The Jetronic box under the drivers seat together with the two black boxes located a few inches rear of the Jetronic box is part of fuel injection system. The large box next to the spare is for the ABS.
Fuel injection is mechanical and very simple.
You have the Bosh EZ69 ignition system, it's located left side in the engine bay, has a pressure hose connected it, two black large connectors above it.
But you seems to have a problem getting a spark.
Looks like you need to do more tests on your car.
Could be anything really, my two cents is that yoo need to do systematic detective work, you need a plan and rule out one thing after the other.
Personally I think you will save time doing it this way.
My imobilizer was located behind a panel left side of the clutch pedal.
Sorry I couldn't be of any more help, but I guess we all need more information to be able to pin point the problem.

I have an almost identical problem, my car is at the Porsche dealer for the past three weeks, they believe it was the (Porsche UK-fitted) immobiliser which they have already removed, but the situation is still the same. They suspect the EZ69 unit. Any hints/tips/ideas anyone?
They say they have checked everything and there is power going up to the EZ69 but still no spark...

Goodmorning John,
as I was driving the engine just died, I opened the engine cover & saw a bit of smoke, looked underneath and the cat was really red-hot. Called Porsche they came and picked it up, checked everything and they now believe it's the EZ69 unit....

1994T36's problem turned out to be an immobiliser under the seat. I don't think many have had issues with the EZ69 unit, Miles is one that has. I don't have access to my books here and wouldn't like to lead you astray, so I'll let the others chime in from here.
