Turbo Basics
I'm thinking about buying another Porsche. The turbos have always interested me buu I know very little about them. How can I learn about the basics -- how does a turbo work? Is there a good publication that is recommended? Maybe "Turbos for Dummies" ? Thanks.

Jeff are you asking about how the actual turbocharger works??
Basically the exhaust from your engine drives a wheel (called a turbine) once the hot exhaust air is driven passed the turbine it exits out your tailpipe..
The turbine is connect by a shaft to a usually larger wheel. This wheel is a compressor wheel, and it injests air from your air filter and compresses it and pumps it into your engine.
Very basic description.. You can then add the intercooler and wastegates and added fueling to make the system complete.

Kevin -- thank you. I look at Turbo's for sale and the information in the engine is Greek to me -- one bar boost, certaiin kinds of turbo chargers etc. I'll keep looking and use the archives.
