Default checking oil needle never moves

ive driven my turbo 2 for around 2000 miles still havent topped up the oil anyway checked it again today as the needle never moves and it use to
im finding it very difficult to find where the oil is on the dip stick as its fairly clean even after 2000 miles
drove the car until warm, parked on a flat surface, pulled out dip stick, wiped it clean, reinserted and pulled out again to check oil on one side i can only see oil by the first spiral and the other side it seems to vary a few mm of oil then no oil then a few more mm but looks as if it is half way between the spirals.
should i top it up, oil pressure is around 1.5-2 bar at idle and nearly 5 bar when driving

The oil reading on the dipstick should be the same on both sides of the stick otherwise your just looking at splashback. Add some more oil and the gauge will start registering once your oil level reaches somewhere just slightly above the bottom reading on the dipstick (assuming your oil is at 194F/90C) and don't fill more than the halfway point or the oil will find its way to places you don't want it when it gets hotter.

Between the low and high marks on the gauge and the spiral section of the dip stick is only about 1 and 1/4 of a quart US.

If you see any oil on the gauge (more than 1/2 way) you are fine, same for the dip stick. Don't over fill, you will have to spend a lot of time cleaning them up when your car start to smoke.

Regards,
ps: What does your temp gauge read when you take the oil reading? The oil has to be really really warm up, hot.

temp is about a quarter eg driven car for about 3km problem is when i read the level from the dip stick only one side really has oil on it but it is a continuous line of oil the other side hardly has any
should the oil be on both sides of the dip stick
the gauge itself reads zero

From that I can tell, 3km will not be long enough to bring the oil up to temp.

I normally go for a long drive on the freeway, or at least 20-30 minutes drive (total). Your oil temp gauge should be closer to 9 clock from the bottom before you try to read the oil. Let the car idle for about 1 to 2 minutes then take the reading.

Regards,

Sonny

Yes, the oil should be on both sides of the dipstick and it should be at the same level. If you have a jackstand and 30 minutes of free time I would really recommend taking a look inside the oil tank at the oil level sender (you don't have to drain the oil, just clean any dirt from the area). It wasn't until I opened the oil tank and took a look inside that I completely understood how the stupid thing works (and it was embarrassingly simple). Just for the piece of mind its worth it (when I originally bought my 964 new I drove nearly 3 hours back to the dealer because my oil level was in the red. ).

You want the oil temperature to be at least 90C/194F and the oil level not to read more than half (my gauges were in need of some R&R when the photos were taken several years ago).

No you have not done any damaged to your car.

FYI, between the lowest mark and highest mark on the dip stick represent a little more than 1 US Quart. You still have at least 9 quarts of oil in the system. Unless your oil level dropped to way below that level before you started to top it off you are fine.

Sonny

Just to reinforce what Sonny V is saying, the factory procedure for changing your oil involves idling with only 6 quarts of oil. So its almost impossible to have not enough oil!
