Feedback: I'm considering buying this 91 Turbo
Hi all!
I'm considering buying this 91 Turbo: Photos and vids here
Here is what I can share currently.
1. ROW German car '91-99. France '99 to now. I would import it
2. ~80,000kms / 50,000mi
3. options list:
RH Speedline replica wheels
Matching numbers
Other than that it appears to be stock. It's definitely not a garage queen but overall looks is solid shape based on what I can see from the photos. I will have a 3rd party inspect it.
There was some repaint on the right side, but no history of an accident. Car checks out clean. Paint meter readings/pics are coming shortly.
The shop selling it on behalf of the current owner has maintained it for the last 6+ years, including selling it 6 years ago to the current owner.
There doesn't seem to have been any major engine/transmission work. Just regular maintenance. Also appears to have original clutch. Is this worrying?
I would love the groups feedback, and even if someone is open for a phone call chat that would be even more amazing! There are so many passionate experts here it's astounding!
For me it's going to be a driver car, not daily, but Porsches should be driven - this definitely isn't a garage queen. The price seems fair and I'm not battling the PCar/BaT crowd.
Based on what you see I would also love your thoughts on what this car should sell for in today's market. (i'm not going to sell it, just curious if my purchase price is fair)
Cheers!
Dave

The first sentence in my post has the link. Unfortunately the forum post doesn't make it super obvious. I'll see if I can edit that.

check the link for pics.
Car looks great to me - I'm in the Driver not garage queen category, too.
On my car, clutch was replaced around 50K miles by a previous owner - and around 100k mi I had to do it again. So based on the 1 car sample size you may have a clutch job soon.
Check your limited slip - probably fine at 50k miles. At 100k mine was done. Not sure how long exhaust valve guides last - again by 95K mi mine were definitely in need of replacement.
Pricing - sorry I'm not the guy to ask.

That car shows to be all original. Getting back in these car and driving them hard will bring up required maintenance. I'm restoring my second one in the last 18 months first one has 54k miles, second one has 38k miles. I personally believe the majority of the chassis needs to be taken apart, cleaned, checked, updated and reinstalled. You wouldn't believe the mess you'll find. If you are driving at 100 mph it's recommended. Plus your waste gate pipe is running lien. Need to check the valves. It's white in color, usually means it heated up Red hot.

Hi all, thanks for the feedback. I ended up not pulling the trigger on this one. But I did find another 91 Turbo that I have purchased and I should have it in ~6-7 weeks. I'm pretty excited about it, and I look forward to sharing all the details and pics with you all. In the mean time I've been doing a ton of Rennlist forum reading. I love the camaraderie and knowledge here. I've been out of the car world for about 13 years. Lived overseas, 3 kids, and built a company. Now I've got time to get back into cars which have always been a passion of mine. While you wait for pics of my Turbo I'll leave you with this: my 1979 Austin Mini that I just pulled out of 13 years of storage (see above!). I bought it in 1992 when I was 16 for $1000 and fully stripped it, taught myself to weld (39 new body pieces on), replaced all rubber pieces, every nut and bolt new, factory rebuilt engine etc etc. Needs a bit of TLC and some finishing touches - I guess it never ends! This is a lot easier to work on than a Turbo, but I'm up for the challenge. And in 2022 we have the advantage of the internet to help.
