Default Spark Plug Wires!!

Sheesh,... I've spent the last 2 weeks trying to figure out where and which spark plug wires to put in my '91 964 Turbo.

Wires from Porsche are over $200 EACH. Not interested in Clewett Eng,... and Bosch has exited the spark plug / wires / etc market (I also know this to be true cuz Bosch no longer sells the Y5DDC plug for my 997.2 !)

FCP Euro will no longer sell / distribute the "Beru" wires (which is what I currently have on my car) to the United States.

FVD Brombacher does not sell any spark plug wires for our car either.

I'm grasping at straws now. I asked Cobalt directly on this quest too, and no joy. Someone has to have done this in the past year or so??

Any idea guys????

Steve, In the past 9 months, I purchased OEM for my 94 (stock car) and Clewett for my 72 (Hotrod). Why don't you like Clewett Engineering? They are super high quality.

Ques: Is the "upper" verses "lower" regarding a regular 964 dual distributor, dual plug setup? .... verses our single plug, single distr?

Seems like the only kit I'd need is the first one on the list - Part# CE-9192-22-B.
$170 seems cheap for a set of 6 wires

https://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog...-wire-sets.htm

Also wondering if the $70 price differential for the Bosch -verses- Porsche Distributor caps is warranted....

https://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog...butor-caps.htm

TIA

Steve, did you have a triple shot espresso this morning?!

ALWAYS email Glenn at Pelican and ask him to help you pick your stuff. Tell him that his most favorite customer referred you: glenn@pelicanparts.com

To answer your questions:
1) Clewett Upper versus Lower; I ordered both as you can see in the picture below, I am running a dual plug 2.9L Mg. case hotrod engine. If I remember correctly, the lower was a bit longer for routing AND I think that it was not terminated so you could wiggle it around to your distributor or electronic module. I am going to guess that if you go this route, you can order Upper and be good.
* I am not sure about the resistance of these wires and if they are OK to run with your 965 ignition module? NOT SURE.
**Regarding the performance of Clewett; my engine was dyno'd for a few days to break in/tweak/tune without hiccups.
*** If you are looking for originality the end caps do NOT look OEM for a 965

2) 965 wires; I ordered OEM but received Beru. This is from a few years ago, they worked fine and fit fine on the 965. I ordered OEM since I was worried about the "Ohms" and did not want to waste my time researching. Maybe I got screwed on this? I don't know.

3) Bosch vs. Porsche Distributor cap; A few years ago I ordered Bosch and received Bosch; It looked, fit, and worked perfect. P/N: 930-602-919-00 Distributor cap
Remember that Bosch and Porsche are both out of Stuttgart, and they comingle and family members work for each company, etc. A little bit like Detroit with people job hopping between the OEMs and suppliers.
* Also don't forget:
930-602-902-02 ignition rotor;
spark plug Bosch FR-6-LDC - 99917019590;
and 928-602-557-01 Porsche Ignition Cable End for Distributor Connection

Data point - when I had my engine rebuilt in Spring 2018 (almost 25,000 miles ago - yikes) I got new wires plus connectors. Beru. Wires have been fine. But the connectors! 3/6 have cracked. So lame. 2 caused arcing that first summer after rebuild. Did a plug change earlier this summer and found another cracked - it was not arcing for some reason...
Hindsight wish I kept my original plug connectors!

Nothing wrong with Clewett and nothing wrong with Beru. Beru has been factory OE since forever AFAIK. I have purchased multiple sets of Beru for 964's and 993's in the past 2 years usually run me around $550-600 depending for a 14 wire set dual plug. I see Beru turbo wire sets for sale for around $350 a set. You do have to be sure you buy Beru made in France and not China. The Chinese versions have been known to crack and the ends break off. Pure junk. The French version I have seem to have no issues. We just purchased Beru bulk wire and the crimp ends to make custom lengths for my track build. I was hoping to use individual all in one coil packs but the turbos obstruct one of the coils so I am using 6 individual remotely mounted coils and running wires from them using the standard Beru ends. The wire came in red but I plan to wrap it in heat shielding.

For a car like my turbo I like to use factory parts for my custom work I don't care so long as it is quality.

You can see the spool of wire on my IC.

Does anyone have company names that I can call for availability?

Beru with pre-cut end-connectors

Tried ECS Tuning, and they gave me the BERU part for a 930 Turbo - ES2747921
(don't have anything for 964 Turbo's)...

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-beru-par...160901098~beu/

Plus it is wrong for me since it has stainless steel shielding, and I prefer the OEM stock look.
Plus it's only $173 for the whole set. that cannot be a quality set at that price point.

For OE stuff I often use Sunset in Oregon - although I think they go by Porsche Beaverton now. My engine guy uses EBS - Engine Builder Supply - might need an account tho...

Update from me ... After Cobalt was so kind to dig deep into his storage bins, and come up with one that would work for me,... I did finally source some correct parts.

Autohaus AZ was not the easiest company to get answers out of,... they do have the correct threaded-post type crimp connection End-Connectors.

For those of us that have 1991 964 Turbos,... there is a very good chance you have the older 930 style threaded end-connectors. Here is the link:

Turned out my wires were actually fine. The corrosion was only in the cap end that snaps onto the spark plug.

I learned something new from Cobalt, in that the end connectors are of the 930 style and actually thread on/off. Never knew that.

So all I needed were a few end connectors,.... url link in my previous post ^^^

@cobalt and @bweSteve , reviving Steve's thread!

The Beru wires that I pulled out of my engine are Made in Germany! I just ordered replacements, so I will report back on French/Chinese/German/etc. Can you tell if what is on my car appear to be correct for a '94?

A few photos for the state of my project as of a week ago. I will be split the case and remove all the suspension parts as well, so there will be more pieces to clean/restore/replace! And don't panic, I have been doing this stuff for 35 years. This is my medium complexity winter project, I have a simpler project and a more complex going on in my shop all at the same time.
