964 Turbo market
#571
Not JK's cars
A couple Speed Yellow 964 Turbo’s (one a ‘93 Turbo S Lightweight and the other a ‘94 Turbo S Flat-Nose) going up for auction next month at RM in Scottsdale. The Flat-Nose says to be the only one in Speed Yellow. Wouldn’t be surprised if these came out of Jan Koum’s collection as he has a thing for yellow Porsche’s. These two will go for big money.
The Leichtbau was sold by RM in the past, then again on BaT in February of this year and has been in Canada ever since.
The X85, which is the only one in this color, was also sold by RM a few years ago to a Florida collection.
Big money is of course highly subjective, but I don't think these will come close to setting high water marks for their respective models. The best of these have always traded privately and for well beyond prices realized at auction.

There's no way I'd ever own a factory prototype. They are rode hard and put away wet; things welded and bolted to them, holes drilled all over, ect.
Ford, for example, scraps any production cars that have been altered in such a manner. Prototypes? All scrapped.
We had a manager that tried to re-classify a Mustang Shelby Cobra from a test car to a production car so he could tag (reserve it for himself) and buy it. The company fired him for his trouble.

My maintenance director knew more about products than all the engineers from all the OEMs and Suppliers combined. So we always had free test tires, transmissions, axles, engines, trucks, etc... And he would mandate threadlock or threadsealant on all joints. He never trusted the engineers... RIP.

My sister-in-law lives near there she will be out visiting US for the holidays. If it is still around when she gets back I will have her take pics.

The Amethyst 3.6 that GRP sold on BaT a couple months ago is now back up for auction there with another dealer this time without reserve. Ballsy move to put it back up on BaT after only a couple months at no reserve in these times.

I just realized on this car. https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/a...t-nose/1316639 it should have polished speedlines instead of painted. AFAIK the flachbaus all came with polished speedlines.

According to the seller of the Amethyst car the original Speedlines were replaced, but came with the original ones. The original ones however had so much damage they weren’t worth repairing. Also the paint condition leaves some to be desired, the smile at the front (I don’t know why they didn’t fix this), and the condition/wear on some areas leads me to believe the car wasn’t as well taken care of as a lot would hope. Based on the Carfax report it would lead me to believe this car has between 65k-70k miles. There is a 23 year gap in the records when the odometer was replaced so they tell me nothing in that regard. The gray interior really doesn’t do it for me either.

The smile is a real concern, it was noted before and they did nothing. All the photoshop work and they didn't spend a little time trying to fix flaws like that???
Their turbo S presentation was far better. I agree the color combo just doesn't do it for me but the color is very nice.

The price of this ‘92 black/black 3.3 has come down significantly over the past few months. Started in the mid 2’s now is $178k.

does anyone know anything about it ? Can we assume they if it hasn’t sold it has some issues?
@audipwr1 I think you are looking for black on black? Just in case you hadn’t seen this in tagging you (apologies if you know it already)

thanks - I sorta gave up. To me if the car was in great condition for 150 I saw value in owning one. All these are rough and you are at 180-200 for me at least to be happy with one and I don’t personally like it at that level
