Default Engine mounts stock vs 993 C4 vs RS

Happy New Year

I'm thinking about changing out my engine mounts. They don't seem to bad, but they look original to the car, that's 27 years old now. I don't want to go with poly. I want to stay with Porsche parts. are the 993 C4 mounts the same as RS. I'm looking for a little firmer than stock. What should be done with trans mount? they should match, right ? and I'm hoping someone on the forum has done this and tell me about the feel.

Thank you kindly
Helio

I replaced my motor mounts with the 964 RS parts. It’s been a few years so my memory is fuzzy. I do recall something about buying some $12 (!!) bolts that weren’t needed. The difference is subtle compared to what I assume were stock 964T mounts. Very slight bit more NVH. And while it may (most likely) have been in my head it felt like the weight back there didn’t move around as much in spirited corners.

I waited to long, my rear mounts failed - dropped the motor so much I scratched my headers before I could get home.

I replaced the rear mounts with Semi solid Motor mounts from WEVO , they have two different urethane bushings soft and harder.

I used longer mounting bolts for the rear mounts when installing- now I can loosen the nuts on the mounting bolts enough to drop the motor quite a bit allowing excellent access for valve adjust and other engine work.

no noticeable noise transfer and really stiffend up the shifting, engine movement and I don't have to worry about them failing and dropping the motor.

the front mount I made PVC spacers to fit inside the curved holes in the rubber mount. I cut the spacers from PVC pipe that had a similar curve the sanded smooth before sliding them in. The big washers hold them in place.

When I did my engine re-seal a few years ago I found one mount that was beginning to fail. I install the RS mounts. I didn't notice a difference in NVH by doing so.
In theory, any mount stiffer than stock should improve handling as the stiffer mount make the mass of the engine move more in sync with the chassis.
On newer 911's the mounts are filled with magnetorheological fluid. When "sport" mode is engaged, an electromagnet acts on the fluid to increase the viscosity, thereby stiffening the mount.

What is the part number for the oem 964 Turbo engine / motor mount?
......... I am having trouble finding it in my PET (that document is organized in such a way that it does not jive with my mental prowess :-)

I have seen you guys reference the RS 964 mounts (and I am assuming they are stiffer than Turbo mounts, since Turbo mounts are stiffer than the regular narrow body NA 964)....

Paul has mentioned (in the past, diff thread) part number 964-375-043-81 for these RS mounts,... so I am trying to decipher which I want to go with. I do not want WEVO.

Thanks in advance

Illustration 109-00

It doesn't appear to list a turbo specific part - but there is a 965- prefixed part specific to the C4 Targa and Cab.

Thanks. Found them....

Left: 965.375.049.xx

Right: 965.375.050.xx

xx seems to be a .00 for the regular C2,... then .01 seems to be for the C4,... but I do not see a reference for those last two digits for the Turbo

Just checked mine (92 3.3). Interestingly it has both a 964- and a 965- part number. The 965- number matches that which you've listed.

Ahh,.. yep. Now I see it - on the first page of illustration 109-00,.. those part numbers start with 964. thank you.

so the parts for TURBO start with 965. Got it. My eyes are not so good for close-up computer screens these days.

So it looks to me as if the PET labels them as being the same part as for the C4 Cab / Targa. It's interesting that it the Turbo variants don't have a specific part listed, which is usually the case when you have a spread of different parts for C2/C4/RS.

Since the PET I am looking at is specifically for the 1994 3.6 964 Turbo,... I am thinking that they only call out those 964 part numbers for the C2, C4, Targa as a extra convenience.

Thanks Igooz & Megatron,... seems both of your sets have BOTH sets of numbers on them.

Probably all the same dang mounts,... and probably ALSO the same mount used on BOTH sides,... LOL

either way, I've got them on order,... and my local Porsche dealership did me a big solid (pun intended) with the price they are charging me. I pushed them hard once I heard the pricing, and wow they came thru (several hundred dollars saved).

This is a topic I haven't figured out yet. Jason Andreas has some info someplace. I have many different engine mounts all are marked with the same part numbers as shown. Some are steel bodied some are aluminum (I believe the turbo had the aluminum body) I also believe there is some dampening differences for the heavier turbo engine. The RS is not hydraulic and just uses a stiff rubber center and magnesium housing. FVD sells a copy for cheap but has an aluminum body instead of magnesium. I switched most of my cars over to either RS or solid motorsports engine mounts. The solid is noticeably different and doesn't isolate noise like the RS version.

If anyone is interested i have a set of solid aluminum Kelly Moss racing mounts I might be persuaded to part with. I spent $500 on these many eons ago. Used not perfect half price + shipping. PM me if interested.
