What is the alternative? 993-573-011-03 is $475 at Sunset, and that should just be a drop in replacement? (vs $90 for the Behr). Wow, didn't realize the price delta.
EDIT: per below as of this posting the Kuehl / Griffiths is $399
On other cars I have made my own using the mastercool crimper and appropriate fittings. Its not hard but its usually access that is annoying as the hard lines often traverse firewalls etc.
Okay, I now have three condensers in my possession. Quick photos and observations before I try to install one of them.
From left to right you have the original (leaking) condenser that came out of the car, the condenser made by NGK that I purchased from FVD (which appears to be the same part sold by Griffiths, just $100 less), and the "OEM" Behr condenser discussed in this thread.
The original condenser is tube-and-fin, the NGK is parallel flow, and the Behr part is flat tube serpentine. If I were a total masochist, I'd want to run comparisons to see if there was any difference in performance, but that's not going to happen - I'm just going to install the NGK. It looks thinner than the OEM (the Behr looks thicker) but I think it will mount in the bracket correctly. I'll let you know if it doesn't!
Has anyone pursued having the hosing on the lines replaced with barrier hose?
I had all of the soft lines on mine replaced with barrier hose last year. Found a reputable hose shop to handle the work, and the only downside is the new hoses being more difficult to flex into place.
The install went fine, it doesn't use all of the stock mounting screws but 3 out of 4 is more than enough.
System is charged and working although vent temps aren't great (~50 in 78f ambient) but that might be because I added a bunch of PAG oil to make sure there was enough in the system.
I'm in the middle of replacing the condenser as well. Got the old parts out and saw that the foam seal around the condenser has almost gone. Looking into the Parts Catalogue, I'm not sure how to replace it. Is it part no. 000 043 20488 (No. 4 in picture 813-45)?
Thanks for your advice.
I bought a variety of self adhesive foam from the hardware store and played around until some thing fit. It’s not providing a watertight seal or anything good enough is good enough

Original hose was barrier hose per the research I did at the time. Its not like the stuff from the much earlier aircooled 911s. I had the hoses in the engine bay rebuilt using Parker FUTURA hose at the local hose shop.
