Hardly. Depends on your usage. Difficult to describe the sound and sensation of a snowy winter sports drive in the mountains, on a sunny day with the Targa off. Great in a C2, unbeatable in a C4.

In the PacNW we get more rain than snow, but I live close enough to the pass that this wouldn't be out of the question. The more specific question is am I asking for trouble (maintenance/something else to fix) by adding the AWD system into the equation?

Yes there is a bit more weight to it, but that aside from what I've read the AWD system that the C4 has is solid and hasn't had/resulted in any major issues. Previously I had discounted it due to weight and potential complexity, but could be that is a non issue.

This was one of the articles I read

I also have a 964 C4 coupe that I actually prefer driving over the C2. I find it much more confidence inspiring to drive at high speeds. The understeer many report in the C4 can be dialed out with the correct equipment and adjustments.

The brake/diff pressure pump up front by the spare tire is the weak link in the AWD system and is a a 2k dollar part, or 1800 rebuilt.

Others can chime in on reliability of the AWD system. I lost my concentration for a millisecond in my C2 in March, resulting in a 10k insurance claim for repairs. I'm an average to good driver with approx 40k miles of all weather 911 driving history. I'll never be good enough to save the car in the stupid situation I should never have got myself into. Really ask yourself how you will use the car, and how much time you will dedicate to learning how to use it. We forget these cars can bite, and if I went round again I might well choose a C4. I doubt an average driver like me could honestly say it was less fun for 95% of the miles we drive. Tracksters and racers? Whole different story.

You can actually see the black interior and the engine shots from this Sacramento Craigslist post.

These are good names. I recall seeing a dealer in the midwest that had a great collection and I cannot remember its name or find it online. Seem to recall it may have been in or near St. Louis, but not certain.

Any ideas? They had a few dozen air-cooled 911s last I checked.

Thanks so much.
