964 Targa - help me buy my first!
I've been searching for a 964 Targa for a little bit and am wondering if anyone here can help me find one (doesn't need to be a garage queen). There are some here and there, but I would prefer to buy one from the owner and better if it is a Rennlister.
So what am I looking for?
Thanks in advance and happy holidays to you and your families!
EDIT: added price and mileage from the below and adjusted my C2/C4 to be either
So what am I looking for?
- Year: 92-93, is my preference, but would be open to a 91
- C2/C4: Either
- Trans: Manual (always driven one and at this point can't imagine not)
- Color (exterior): non white, but for the right car I would make an exception
- Color (interior): any (and open to redoing it if necessary)
- Location: I am in the PacNW (USA) and would travel for the right car
- Price/Mileage: gotta be the right car first, but I'd generally prefer a car with less than 100k miles that is 50k (USD) or less in price
Thanks in advance and happy holidays to you and your families!

There weren't many targas made during 964 production. I love the look myself, and have had several--just sold one last year. I won't try to talk you out of owning one, just be of the mindset that you really only want it for nice days. Any other time its just loud and leaks, and there is no point in having convertible if you are riding around with the top on.
Dan Petchel at CarsINC will be your savior when it comes to rebuilding/getting the roof to seal correctly.
Also, I would also consider '90 model year cars. The head gasket issue (or lack thereof) is really not a big deal. Many of these have now been rebuilt to address the issue, or just weep oil the way just about every other 911 back to '64 does.

But i'd beg you not to pigeonhole yourself into a targa and look at these:

When you say they leak a lot...is this a fit issue with the top that is easily corrected or a PIA no matter what. That said, it would be garaged at home and work. And aren't all 964s a it loud or are coupes that much quieter?
I've read the same advice in a few places and while I get it I would prefer to avoid it if I can.

And thanks for the links - a couple of nice ones in there
EDIT: is there an easy way to search CL broadly (I assume that is what you did to find the above)?

GL w/ Purchase. Seems your mileage & price range is in line, and should allow you to land your car soon I would expect.

Auto tempest is probably your best bet. You might check a couple dealers including Holt Wheels, Sloan Cars, and Music City Motorsports. They usually all have nice 964/993 inventory.
To answer your above question, I have always experienced some difficulty getting the roof to seal in a quiet fashion. My last car fit best, and there are a number of different tricks to make them quieter--but none are nearly as quiet a a coupe. They tend to be fairly leak free as long as the weatherstripping is in ok shape, but some of the seals run $$$. There are aftermarket URO options, but I don't like their quality.
