Pardon me of my ignorant in this area, perhaps aside from a "louder" exhaust I gather, what does this cup pipe replacement do to a stock 964 performance? Increase drivability? Does it confuse the DME mapping? Important for me in CA - any adverse effect on emission?

Reduce weight Just throatier noise too. Mapping, emissions etc should remain unaltered.

Is it necessary to put the car on jackstands for this? I just bought the two piece as well? Do I just shove one end of the end of the other as hard as I can?

Any extra height useful. You'd proably want to anyway in wanting the wheels off for better access and fiddle room...

Streetdaddy, dont bind two pieces before they're installed at either end. Tighten joint clamp last.

it wouldn't pass a visual if they know what they are looking at. But the cat is the only item really required to pass the sniff test...

thank you for those who have chimed in regarding CA emission experience. Although I am inclined to simply leave my entire stock exhaust intacted, for those few still having the undertray installed, I doubt the smog techs can tell the difference with this subtle change. Agreed most smog stations probably look for the cat on their visual inspection.

California smog check doesn't care about anything downstream of the cat, visual or otherwise. As long as the catback section doesn't have a bunch of holes in it that will throw the readings off at the probe, anything goes.
