Default Dilemma - 964 as DD or what?

3 cars w/a 2 car garage. So I have been living with this dilemma for as long as I can remember and have finally come to terms that I need to make a change. So the question is do I sell my volvo C30R and DD my 964? Or sell both and pick up a 997.1 C2? Oh and my 964 AC currently doesn't work and I live in NC.

I drove my 964 cab as a daily driver for 13 years (180K miles). I only stopped because I moved to New England and they salt the roads in the winter. Now I drive the 964's as DD's from April to Thanksgiving. 964's can be great DD's if you take care of the maintenance.

If it were me, I would fix your 964's AC and use that as your DD. But what did you expect as an answer on the RL 964 forum?

You know I'm going to say daily drive it. I use mine a couple times a week, and it really seems to like it as i drive it for months without any issues. (155,000 miles). Parking is my only concern... If you've had yours for a couple years and the maintenance is current, I see no problems. Have you converted your ac to 134? If the system has a slow leak and it's low, it won't kick in. I add a can every year and then it blows ice cubes. Where in NC? (On phone, so doesn't show)

Of course I knew the answer but I guess needed a little encouragement. The car is well sorted except for the AC and the occasional squirrel cage sound from the fan housing. As it sits now, I have it in the shop getting the AC looked at. If I can get the AC fixed, I am leaning the DD route. Oh, I live in Charlotte.

Daily drive it, I do mine throughout the year thanks to Seattle's mild winter. I had my A/C sorted, it was low and had a small leak which they were able to find by putting dye into the system, works great now.

Ditto the others- DD it, you'll be happy you did.

You can always find a 997 - a well sorted 964 will be much more challenging to find later when you want it back

Great daily driver.....commuted for two years from SF to Menlo Park on 101 and then two years in Dallas; being in the Porsche helped me forget the grind of "traffic"!

My 964 is my daily. It's been in the 90's the last few days but the A/C keeps me ice cold even when stuck in traffic.
A 997 would be tempting as it's probably slightly more comfortable (but not as much fun). The 964 then is a good compromise...air cooled but with functional HVAC!

Great that you're having the AC looked at. (Just so you feel a bit more confident) Since we live in the same heat, once it's fixed, it can handle NC heat.

If I didn't dd, I wouldn't own one. Mine has been my daily since day one.

Great to hear such support to DD a 964. And to find out many are doing just that! I haven't paid enough attention to my air/heat but am looking forward to getting it sorted.

I agree - I've driven mine as a DD for the last 10 years and its never stranded me or been an issue. The only problem has been idiot porsche techs who can't look after older cars and break things ! But the car otherwise has been awesome and my kids love it. Like Rob, I've got a cabriolet and it has carted at various times 2 adults and 2 kids, 2 adults one kid and one 60kg dog ! I don't know how many times I've "gone to get a carton of eggs" and its taken 2 hours of round trip when the shop is only 13 minutes return in my other cars ;-) I live in Darwin in the NT, Australia where the humidity and temp is usually enormous and my aircon gave up the ghost earlier this year.....I just put the roof down and suck it up till my parts arrive from the USA and I can get them in :-)
