Default 964 foglight-glass

Somebody told me the foglight-glass for the 964 is exactly the same as for a VW Golf II, a standard Bosch-item? Is there any truth to this?

cheers

Hmm! I'd be interested to find out! I bet that the Golf item won't be any where near as expensive as the Porsche item!

Christian,

Just been looking on www.eurocarparts.com & it seems as though the Golf items are made by Hella & not Bosch! Suppose they might still fit though! Price < £50 each!!

Don't know if the Porsche-items are Bosch, it was just an assumption from my side. I can see a Golf VW II ( I think) parked down street from my office window. I'll have a closer look as I'm just about to leave.

cheers

964 foglights are Bosch and you have to replace the whole unit (not just the glass) Uk price is about £70 new or not too much less if you can actually find a secondhand one. I've no idea if a golf on would fit but would be surprised if the shape and mountings are the same.

Richard,

I cleaned my fog lights out a couple of months ago by taking the lights apart. You can separate the glass from the rest of the light! It's a shame that you can't just buy the glass.

Andy,
I agree but the glass part also has the mounting points on if I remember correctly? Either way it's a shame the glass cannot be replaced alone for a more reasonable cost.

Richard.

Default fog light

Ok, so I asked the guy who told me this to really check his sources, and he had gotten it wrong and said that it was the Golf III and 993 fog-light glasses which where the same.

Might be worth contacted aftermarket supplies such as Design 911 etc - they may be able to source just the glass...

Cheers

YEP !

I bought a set of smoked side-repeaters for my mk2 golf 16v, when i changed that for an AudiS2 they were the same so i swapped them, then when i changed the audi for my 964 could i believe it !! they were the same again, so again i swapped them !

My side repeaters have had a fairly interesting life so far. I wonder what they'll fit onto next???

Christian,

I just replaced my right fog light last weekend. Had to buy the entire unit from Eurowebparts.com. About $110 I think. It went in pretty easily once I figured out that I didn't have to unbolt it from the backside (inside the bumper).

Sureley there must be somebody amongst us that knows where we can buy just the glass? Both of mine are cracked but not bad enough to fail the MOT test so I have not replaced them. £70+ each is a rediculous amount and I really cant justify this as the lights still work. Maybe somebody could fabricate/mould/invent some replacement lenses.
Yours hopefully.
