Rear spoiler motor is toast. Sweet!!!!!!
I'm getting close to sorting out the last few 'gifts' the previous owner left me.
The most recent (and hopefully last) one is an enoperable rear spoiler.
Initially I thought the missing controller was the reason. A good used one was sourced but the problem persists.
At least this time I know the car wants to raise the spoiler and lower it but can't. It even has a little light that shows me!
After inspection, I confirmed all of the required parts were present.
I quckly found out why it doesn't work when I tried to remove the motor to verify the mechanical bits were good.
The motor was seized up and the cable going from it to the transmission were fused together by corrosion.
I took some doing, but I managed to separate the two. Once seperated, the mechanical operation of the spoiler was confirmed good. No squeaks or rattles.
The motor, however, is toast. Long live the toast!
A new unit will cost about $500 US. Ouch. I've seen used ones for around $150.
Curse you Porsche tax!
It's just a 12v motor right?....can it be repared or replaced with a different unit right?
Thoughts? Suggestions? Should I suck it up and buy new? Or risk it with a used unit. Or try to repare the busted one?
Thanks.

Burning Brakes
You have nothing to lose by trying to fix the old one. It does have a bearing in it much like the spoiler transmission
Its a bear to open, you need to cut it along the seams, once inside try using CRC Electra Motive electric parts cleaner and replace the bearing as well
On reassembly clean both surfaces well and use Loctite Gel Super Glue

I thought there was a Rennlist picture story on this but I couldn't find it.

I rebuilt my transmission but the motor is still loud as hell. I'd love to see some pictures on what the insides look like.

Great pics! I'll use this as a guide for when I get into mine this weekend.
After you rewound the motor, how has it been working? It's been a couple years now.
Thanks!

Thanks to earlier posts, I got the motor apart and took some pictures for reference.
My advice if you try to do this, take your time using a very sharp blade, to split the halves.
The good news is, as bad as it looks, the motor still works. The only thing that really is toast is the bearing. It will definitely need to be replaced.
Here are all of the parts I took apart.
Once it's cleaned up and a new bearing sourced, I'll put it back together and I should be good to go!

Thanks!
I ended up destroying the retention ring and cap trying to get the cable separated from the motor housing.
Now I have the part number! Thanks again.

Okay, even though the motor wotks, I've decided to buy a new one along with a new bearing.
Question now is how do I remove the brass screw on the end of the motor drive shaft?
Thanks!!
