Default Price check on '91 Tip.

Not being too savvy of the 964 market I wanted to see if I could garner any opinions on a fair price for this car. It is a 1991 C2 Coupe Tiptronic. Polar Silver with 96,000 miles. The engine was rebuilt 40,000 miles ago and leaks no oil. All service records, no accidents, and here are the added goodies - Bilstein suspension with RS springs, Fikse 17" wheels with new tires all around, Turbo tail (cosmetic), and RS front splitter - car looks and runs great. Price is $19,800. I thought it may be hard to sell a Tip if down the line as well. Any thoughts appreciated.

CAA, I bought my '91 C2 Coupe Tip in May of this year. The car was in excellent conditions with 35,000 miles on the ODO. My mechanic did the PPI and leak down test (4% on #1 and 2% on the rest) and found the car to be in excellent condition. Everything on the car was original and came with all service records from a local Porsche Dealer. After discounting for worn tires, brakes, and rotors I paid $25,000 for it.

The resale value is determined by market demand. The lower the demand, the lower the price. The 5 speed is usually more sought after than the Tip. However, the Tiptronic transmission is built like a tank. And that alone will save lots of money down the road.

Good Luck!

I think that a sub $20k 964 cab/tip is a pretty good price. I have a '91 cab/tip with 49k miles that I bought for $23,500, but it is bone stock with 0 mods. It is excellent, with records, but it is in amethyst metallic, which is a niche color and not as desireable as polar silver. The tip knocks off around 15% to 20% of the value as best as I could tell. They sure are strong trannys though.

Thanks for the replies. Just to clarify, this is actually a sunroof coupe. My concern is that with current market conditions this car is overpriced. No flame intended....All the sources I could use to check value on this show it is about 4k off (to the high side).

$16-19k for a good condition '91 with no current problems and in OK cosmetic condition. Crikey!......and lowered and in Polar Silver you say................even with Tip that would tempt me as a daily beater if nothing else.

What sources are saying that the price should be in the $16-19k range?

Ruiardh - I used kbb, edmunds tmv, and nadaguides, everything (trade to private party) comes out 15k low end to 17.5 high end....As I said, I'm just not that savvy about the 964 market and take those pricing guides with a grain of salt. Just wanted to tap the knowledge of this board. I do appreciate the help!

pricing guides seem only to exist so car salesmen can offer you as little as possible for your trade in!!

Everytime I have bough ta car, I mention guide price to the salesman - he fobs it off...until its his turn to use the guide price for the trade in!!!! Funny that!

CAA - the car is worth what you are willing to pay! I have a tip 'sunroof coupe' as you put it. Great car, lots of fun, very fast, no flywheel or clutch repairs!!

Hi CAA,
I went to Kelly Blue Book online, and with the specs. you mentioned and in my zip code, with a private party sale KBB comes back with $21,025 for a tip, 20,610 for a manual.

My recommendation: PPI, then put it on your Discover card for the cash back award. But only if it is exactlly the car you want, of course. It sounds like it's outfitted nicely.

Sounds like a good deal. My Cab Tip was about that.
