Default 964 C4 ABS diagnostics

Hello can anybody point me in the right direction. I have been diagnosing an ABS fault for a friend on his 964 C4. When he is driving, randomly the ABS/Diff lamp and a warning buzzer activate. I've checked all the sensor wiring to the ABS unit all ok. I checked all of the sensors and cleaned them. The accelerometer is also OK. I by passed the relay.
Couple of questions:
1 is there a cheap diagnostic interface for the ABS available? Bosch Hammer is unobtainable.
2 the o/s/r sensor A/C output is lower than the other side, even if I swap the sensors over, the phonic ring looks in good condition, anyone come across that before?

The Rennlist Scantool freeware is compatible with the C4 ABS. Search for Scantool and you'll find lots of threads on this. If you are handy with electronics you can build your own serial adapter, or check out the T-OBD interface. Porsche 9288 hammers are also available for sale.

Cheers,
Tore

Thanks Tore
Do you have a link to the instructions/diagram for the self build interface and software?

Hi Buxton 64,

I've been doing some development work for C2 and C4 ABS test sets (you can search the forum to read about these). In your post you said you "bypassed the relay". There are several relays that will affect the computer's operation, which did you bypass?

Cheers,
Michael (cajonfan)

Hi Buxton, I love it when a new ABS sensor thread comes along

Have a look here. Two of us ended up with different faults but ultimately resolved them the same way.

Mine was a broken wire to the rns sensor, which presented as an intermittent fault at first then once the wire broke completely it was easy to find.

Good luck. Nate
