Default Motor Oil suggestions for 964

Sorry for the noob question as this is my first 964.

The previous owner used Valvoline VR-1 20w50 but I was checking reviews on this oil and it's not up to par as advertised and what it's supposed to be the "best quality racing oil".

Is there an alternative oil and at $50.00 a quart it can add up

You have opened the most debated topic on the boards. You can search and read for days. I trust Brad Penn in both of my cars.

Lots of us love Brad Penn 20-50 (http://www.penngrade1.com/products/H...SAE-20W50.aspx).

Viscosity depends on where you live/temps.

Canola, for sure. But don't tell my wife, she's been a fan of coconut as of late.

Be aware, those oils are recommended for Targa and Cabriolet variants only.

Absolutely a must that the top is off or down while applying the oil though

But myflat6 is correct islandsnow, ask that question and you'll get a dozen different responses. Best bet is to use the "search" option at the top of the page and read up and ultimately come up with your own decision. IMO though unless you're racing or DE constantly, VR-1 is overkill. If it matters, the oil I run rhythms with Prad Benn

I run this exclusively in all my aircooled engines for the street. We began development of this in 2008 with Lake Speed Jr. of Joe Gibbs Driven. 100% of the development work was done using aircooled engines.

For the track, I prefer the additive package and bas oil of XP5 or XP7, dependent upon internal running clearances.

I'm using Amsoil ZRod. I like the full synthetic with high ZDDP content.
