Default Key Cuttings

I tried searching for an old thread I stumbled upon a while back about getting another key cut, and I remember reading about a different key that can be used rather than the Porsche one. Does anyone recall which key code that was. It mentioned that the key could be cut at any hardware store and it was readily available. Thanks

Any of our keys can be cut at a hardware store. I bought blanks on eBay and had them done locally with no issue.

I've always fancied a simple key with just a crest cut into the metal but have never found one, anyone make one?

Alternatively would either of the following keys fit a 964 and any recommended suppliers?

or a 908 / 910 style

Buying a replacement key is the most non-Porsche priced thing I have ever done to my car. I just happened to have the receipt on my desk as I was reading this, $4.36 including the key blank and tax at a locksmith shop. I love the look of the Porsche key, but if you ever are out and drop or misplace it, a thief is going straight to the (probably) only Porsche in the lot and taking a ride. I keep the lighted crested key on the wall at home, and the plain key on my ring.

FWIW, my local Home Depot couldn't cut a new key. I had it done by a locksmith.
