Seems strange that the PO would do this, but maybe you were right with the hot air theory as they have done an abomination of a wiring job on the heating system which I wont even go into!!!!

 

Oh, wait a minute thats the one JB shows on the diagram above! Then I think I already got a price from pelican in that case - they told me that it was a new part and gave me a price ....$34.

Looks to me like he also may have removed your distributor vent kit. -

Whats that white 'plug' on the blower's down pipe at the bottom left? (Arrowed).

 

I've no idea! (and still no car back!) When I went through with my mechanic after my first garage visit, he didnt notice that at all! What should be there??

 

Well, there are different ways of linking to that down pipe, but it looks to me like there should be a rubber grommet just there, which holds a connector to a tube which leads to a 'plug' at the base of one of your distributors.

The idea is that the secondary distributor's drive belt gets a supply of forced air, which helps prevent the belt from deteriorating due to ozone build up at the base of the distributors.

 

I'll get it checked out as soon as I can! I really took a big risk with this car and I'm afraid everytime I turn around theres going to be something else!! <groans>

Just as a little 'tidy up' item, that soundproofing above the engne can easily be glued back into position.

There's a product in the UK calles 'No More Nails' - just a general heavy duty glue. I used that and held everything up with masking tape overnight. It worked a treat and makes the engine bay look much more presentable.

 

Thanks for the suggestion JB, Actually its on the list to be replaced. If the dealers mechanic who is currently working on the car has not done so, then my mechanic says he will replace next time it goes in!

I don't want to insult your mech's intelligence, but make sure the new soundproofing goes in the right way up.

Almost unbelievably, someone on this board had theirs put in the wrong way!

There is a 'soft' side, which should go against the metal and a 'shiny' side which faces the engine.

 

Any input as far as the difficulty of replacing 964.106.403.02?

 

It looks like it should be pretty easy.

But then, I am possibly the world's greatest home mechanic (not) - I even put my own fuel in and occasionally put some air in a tyre.



The difficult bit is getting that blasted rubber seal to hook up properly around the end of the tube which leads to the blower. Just a bit of a faff is all.

This part finally arrived 2 days ago and I fitted it last night in about 10 minutes. One question: should the air duct just rest against the blower pipe or should one go inside the other?
There is a slight ridge on the surface of the airduct opening that goes against the blower suggesting thats all that needs to be aligned...I just expected it to be a more secure fit! I've looked at as many engine pics as I could find, but none really show enough detail to tell and I just dont have access to another 964!

There should be a rubber seal that connects the two.
