Default Lowering 964

What are the suggestions for lowering a 964? How much room do I have in the stock car available settings for lowering without changing the suspension on the car? I'd prefer not to get into a suspension mod'. How low can I get the car in stock form and how do I go about it? From the picture, does it appear my car sits a little high, particularly in the front? I was at a track event yesterday and most 964s sat lower. I realize a large majority probably had mod's. Opinions/suggestions?

Thanks..

Won't go into details, cos I'm still painting windows (as you saw in the other thread...). Various companies producing what are called lowering springs. I have Eibachs on my car - it now sits about 40mm lower. Looks better and handles better.

Be worth searching the archives.

I realize you're in the UK Phil. How much would you guess in US dollars would this mod' cost to execute?

Well, around £250 for the springs – about $150, plus half a day's labour to fit the springs (or you could do it yourself). Then you need to allow about the same again in labour for a four-wheel alignment. Dunno, what your local labour rates would be.

Also, worth considering fitting new dampers while you're at it. I didn't and am now having to take the springs off again - d'oh!

Cheers

I am not sure where Phil gets his exchange rates from but the rate is 1.5749, so £250 is $393.73.

I just lowered my car (1992 C2) I used Eibach pro-kit and Bilstein dampers. Lowered front and back about an inch. Back actually could be lowered more. Looks great and handles and RIDES better than the stock suspension. Really pleased. I also changed the brake lines to SS braided lines.

Does my car look higher than stock in the image?

no, yours looks about right. My stock was 27" from front wheel lip to floor and 26.5" from back wheel lip to floor, measured thru the center of the wheel on a flat surface. I have 17" rims (not that that should matter as the total wheel plus tire diameter is roughly the same with the proper rubber on either 16" or 17" rims).

Russ,

How much did that lowering kit cost you? As far as the measure goes.......from the fender bottom lip to the floor, is that what you're describing? Thanks for your input.....very helpful.

Lowering springs were $320, Struts were $639 for the set of four from shox.com. Installation and alignment were more and will depend on your area. Yes, the measurement is from the fender bottom lip to the floor, holding the tape measure perpendicular to the floor passing thru the center hub. Let me know what your measurement is. thanks

Whoops, thanks for pointing that Christer. I'll go to the back of the class...

Russ, what do you think of the Bilsteins? Did you fit them yourself? If so, I'd be interested to know where you set the spring seats.

Cheers

Can you replace the springs to lower the car and use the same stock struts?

Yes, you can, but there's a fair chance the dampers are past their best - esp the rear ones - if they're the originals.

Cheers

57,000 miles. Still seems like a rough rider in the back. I'd have to think the struts are still good........

Just trying to limit the money flow......
