Default Gas leak

Just noticed a gas smell and looked under the car and lo and behold i see a little puddle. Right between the two front tires.
Need to visit my mechanic anyway, but i am a little concerned. Any ideas what it could be? Can i drive it in or is this dangerous?

Gas tank leak of some kind. I would not risk driving it even though you don't have an engine on the front that could cause a blow up.

Well that's where the fuel pump resides, in a compartment under the gas tank that's accessible via a cover on the undercarriage (USDM pass. side of tunnel, behind the plastic undertray).

Ok, i just looked under it with a mirror. It is dripping out of the vented piece right by the drain holes for air intake. Is that fuel pump?

You need to get the car up high enough to access the fuel pump. If you can't, then have it towed to a shop. Would not drive with a gas leak. Could be something as simple as a loose banjo fitting on the pump.

Fuel pump is very easy to do yourself. Just make sure you disconnect the battery first!

and drain the fuel tank tank.

I removed the tank recently for my evaporator replacement and ran the car way beyond the low fuel light's first appearance and still ended up w/ like 2 gals of gas pouring out of the car when I opened up those fuel lines.

lol, that's how it went down w/ me too. I ended up driving around in the Texas summer heat w/o AC for the duration of the gas tank. You can siphon it out via the level gauge (white piece at the top left when standing at the front of the car looking into the trunk).
