Default Airbag

Is it possible to find out if my car originally had an airbag without removing the steering wheel? The steering wheel has been changed at some point.

You could look to see if the airbag disable plug has been installed... look under the carpet on the passenger side of the center console. You'll find a patch of carpet that comes loose, and behind it there is some of the airbag wiring loom. If you see a plug attached (4 wires? not sure I remember) then that is the plug that allows the airbag to be out of the car without it throwing an error)

would the presence of a passenger airbag/upper glove box give a definitive answer?

Default just pull the steering wheel

Why don't you just pull the steering wheel, it's not that hard. If it has an air bag clock-spring then then you will know. Or if the air bag clock-spring was removed it will look like the picture attached.

Thank you for the advise on this. Will pull the steering wheel off today and have a look.
