The rebound adjuster dials stick out of the top mounts a considerable way. I fear they will interfere with the bonnet ribs. Has anyone got this arrangement JRZ Pro and Rennline adj top mounts? Have we messed up somewhere?

Similar setup to my car, i would say you have the top hat spacer on either side of the monoball the wrong way round. One of mine was 15mm longer and i had clearance issues if it wasnt placed on the underside of the top mount

Brake conundrum:

Get a box of calipers to send back in the condition that befits the build.

Open the box and see this:

So defo one is different to the others..

Do I:

a) Ignore. Refurb all and return for fitment.

b) Replace black sheep, refurb and return.

c) Use this as an excuse to replace fronts or all with an upgrade.

What say the cognoscenti??

The odd caliper looks like a 993 rear. it's has a smooth front face as oppose to the raised boss lines on the 964 calipers.

Given the work you have committed too I would go for a set of 993 C2 calipers all round, or perhaps 993 C2 rears and big reds up front.

As well as an upgrade in performance 993 calipers are also more ascetically pleasing.

Yes it's a 993C2 rear which is the same as a 964RS rear caliper. It will have bigger pistons than the other rear so therefore they shouldn't be used as a pair.

Seeing as you already have one 993 rear it would be rude not to buy the matching one and pair them up with some 993tt fronts with a 993 master cylinder and rs uprights. Not cheap but hey, its only money........

Thanks for that. I like the idea of bigger fronts.

I'm amazed I never felt a pull under braking, but thinking about it, I never felt braking hard was a particularly pleasurable experience.

Would be daft to scrimp in this ultra important area. Especially as it's really a 'drive to track car'.

I'll have a search for thread that mention the above options.

Thanks guys, keep 'em coming!!

Would consider aftermarket, AP etc - just defo want to keep the 17" cup 1's

On a NB 964 with a full 993 C2 setup or 993 Rear Big Red at the front you will run out of tyre fiction before you run out of brakes, as such no real need for AP and the like.

I notice from your previous pictures you have new discs fitted, dependant on the direction you go these may need to be replaced.

993 C2 caliper 30 & 34 pistons, as per 964 RS will bolt straight to the car and uses the existing discs.

If you move to 993 front calipers C2 or big red you will need to change the discs.

Took your advice guys. WaffZuff gave me the tip off that there would be a set of 993 C4 calipers at the 'Stumble' sale this morning.

Bought them.

So a refurb and while they are off, I'll get the adapters for fronts to the 964 uprights.

I'm right in thinking the rears discs are std 964? But what are the front discs?

Got a sweat on that I might have dropped one. Is a 993 C4 set of front and rears actually an upgrade to a 964 C2?

The fronts are. The rears have the same size pistons as 964 four pots so are technically not an upgrade. However, I ran that same configuration and it was really nice...I liked the extra front bias that the 993 fronts gave with my 964 four pots on the rear.

Steve, thanks.

I'm good with that. Thanks.

One more thing. Soz. Where should I be looking for a send away refurb. Is there a fave with UK renlisters? What sort of money for full treatment?

Cheers.

Yes the rear discs are standard 964 size, 299mm x 24mm I used 964 RS discs, the only difference being that the RS items are crossed drilled.

Part Number: 951.352.041.91

For the front you will need 304mm x 32mm with a 45mm top hat to ensure correct offset.

These are fitted to the 968, I used 968 M030 which are cross drilled but you can also get solids.

Part numbers: 965.351.041.01. &. 965.351.042.01. (left & right)

Rennline Caliper brackets are a quality item and fit well.

For caliper refurbs I used 'Brake Caliper Specialists' end results was good but they were painfully slow and communication was poor! - If I were doing another set I would use 'Pro Calipers'

.

To add the above the solid discs with the right offsets are 928 items. The part numbers for these are:

928 351 043 60 and 928 351 044 60
