LuckyP's Track Day Project
Hi all,
So the story continues!
In 2007 I bought a C2. Drove it for a bit, upgraded it with Billy HD and H&R greens. Later stuck an H&R ARB on her and she performed ok on road and on track for a few years.
I then went racing for a year in an MR2, loved it and realised that if I were to get the same thrill outta the 964 she needed to be lighter, stiffer and meaner!!
So in 2010 I gave the car to an outfit that prep cars for the Porsche Club Champ with the brief to build a car to Champ spec, so I could track day for a year and then take a view on entering the champ.
Well. It's been nearly 4 years and I'm still not there!!
The car had a lot of early activity, interior came out fast, cage went in quickly, but then the build stalled. I lost focus with other things on my mind, and I never chased as I should.
Anyway, that's changed now. I took the car out of there and gave it to Andy Waters of AWTracksport near Cadwell Park, the guy who kept my MR2 on track throughout the race year of 2009.
Now we are seeing some progress!!!! Pics below!!
As she was, a nice comfortable road car, with occasional track work:
Then too many years making it like this:
Then as progress just wasn't getting made, enough was enough,we shook hands and I took the car away. Off to AWTracksport
This is Andy's work running this for me:
We had a chat, decided that it wouldn't necessarily be built as a race car, but more a stripped out road to track day car (freeing us from the constraints of the champ spec) and he set to it. Stripping the car right back before an acid bath.....
And that's where we are. I'll keep you all upto date as images come in, might need some help on susp, seats, floorboards, steering wheels, door cards etc.
Might have to get myself involved with the london 964 crowd a bit more, eh guys?
Any thoughts, spec ideas or advice, most welcome.
Cheers
Pete

Cheers chaps. Yes, it's been far too long, I promise the congregation that I will not leave it so long for the next update.
I think I need to get a few bits bought to spur me on.
Steering wheel, the dished variety with holes in the three spokes... What model be that?
Cheers

It's the Momo Mod 07
You can buy the basic one from most places like Demon Tweeks.

If you want the Porsche script it's the GT Cup wheel and you get it from Geert at Carnewal. It costs a load more but looks cool.

Thanks for that James, looks like that's an easy decision. Porsche GT cup wheel it is!!!
Seats? I liked my Recaro Pole Position seats in the MR2.. Can I go with these? Where are people getting the best deals?

Me again, PP in my car, reckon they will be ideal for your size. Just right in the 964 cabin. Amazon apparently is where the deals are. You will need the runners from Southbound.
I teamed these up with Schroth GT3 Profi II 6-point harnesses fixed around the cage and retained seat belts for road use.

Dipped and ready to e-coat:
Seeing it stripped of its black paint and with it all decked out with cage and door bars, I just wondered if I was missing a trick putting back to black. I know the CGT and the GT3 are both basalt, and that's my default colour, but what do you guys think would look good on a drive to track car and meet queen???
Go on.. Tempt me with pics!!!!
Thanks in advance.
