It would make sense that more C2's are gone or salvaged. They're more likely to be bought by drivers who track them and drive them to the limit and loose control. A C4 is more likely to keep one out of trouble, especially when inexperienced or driving in poor road conditions.

I had a brief look at what is for sale in the UK.
This is by no means an extensive search and I excluded RS, RSR, Speedsters and Wide Body cabs.
17 x Cabs. (A mix of C2 & C4)
Price range £22 to £39k

4 x Targa
Price range £10 to £22k

Coupe
6 x C4 modded £29 & £32k
3 x C4 std cars £19 & £22
C4 were mostly manual

1 x C2 highly modded £55k
1 x C2 x 1 Tip

If I get time I will do a brief search of Europe too.

For the US there are no Vin numbers from xx1 to x60. All MY cars vin numbers begin with x61 so subtract 60 cars from Adrian's numbers for each MY. I am not sure if that applies to ROW cars.

It is hard to say. I will be converting my 60k mile C2 back to full street soon. The C4 has been gutted and ready for track build so one less there. The car was not worth restoring, I tried but needed too much and would have to be worth $70k to make it worth the effort.

I have upped my sell price on my turbo to $300k. I can't rationally keep it if it can bring that much. My C2 would be closer to $60k before I let it go. Not sure if we will see those numbers but you never know. Meanwhile I will continue to drive it and my GTS as often as I can find the time.

How do you figure this? all the 89's were C4's that is roughly 3100 world wide for 89 and a lot of the 90's I come across are C4's. Are there any data points stating how many C2's vs C4's were made? It would be nice if the C4's had a different vin than the C2's

....people hold on to their C2's more than C4 owners, not surprising

Default How many C2's are left ?

There is always the discussion that in 1989 only C4's were produced,
this is not the case ! my C2 coupe was registered in Germany in october 1989, last 4 digits of the VIN 0712. It is stated as a 1990 model.
Many C2's crashed, in Germany they got the nickname 'baumkleber'
treehugger in English
Probably more C4's are around (safer car for the laymen), C2's are like Lockheed F104's, hot but dangerous

In those days Porsche closed their factory for the summer holiday in August and production started up again in September for the new model year, so even though your car was registered in October, it was a 1990 model year car.
My US C2 coupe was built in early September 1989 ( VIN 0126) and is registered as a 1990 model car.
