Some of the cleaner RWBs are okay but the riveted ones and the Transformer ones, not so much... I'm more of a traditionalist.

I fully agree that good original cars should be kept as they are. If you want a non standard car or you want to heavily modify it, do it on a car that needs love and restoration.
I hear both sides of the argument, but good original cars are becoming a rare thing these days.

x2
I couldn't agree more. Keep the clean ones free from heavy transformation and let the ones needing love to undergo the RWB/heavy body work treatments.

I do like these though, the RWB 993's more so.

Here are an assortment of RWB cars for sale in Japan. Bodywork aside, they seem to go from mild to wild (ITBs, cage, etc.).

I always get asked if I would RWB my 964 by local car enthusiasts, and like a few others in here have mentioned, I also agree that I couldn't chop up a clean 964. Perhaps if I had a spare 964 shell, then maybe. That is also a big maybe, considering the price for the kit is around 18k before wheels.

However, I do like the smooth body ones, notably the white one jpar posted that is stationed in Thailand. And 85% of the RWB's in Japan all see track time, so its not all show and no go.

They seem to be the antithesis of Ruf which is..."All Go and no show!"

I prefer the polar opposite - upgraded mechanicals in a narrow body - much the like the original Ruf Yellowbird (ok it was widened by perhaps 2").

A 993TT transplant into a narrowbody RWD 964 is my favourite conversion.

100% agree with you, 993 TT narrow body would be a great project

The lines are great the rivets not so much. The only cars to pull off add on flairs were the 934 and 993GT2 anything else looks like an afterthought to me. Even the RGT doesn't cut it after seeing the original Yellowbird, and other Ruf creations he missed his mark with that one IMO.

I agree 100% with STUARTQ I tried to resurrect the 90 C4 with just 83k miles but it was just too far gone and to costly to rebuild. So my C2 will be restored to original and the C4 is now going to be a 2600 pound 2WD low boost twin turbocharged 450 hp track monster with 6 speed short geared box and 40/60 guard LSD. I went wide body for the extra rubber and wider stance.

Can't wait to get it done.

Can't wait to see it. have you started a build thread, that I don't know about?

I have though of taking a C2 Cab and turning into a Wide Body Speedster Rep!

The rear panel is available for the hood, it's just a matter of trying to find all the other easy to get parts, NOT.

Sourcing parts has not been all that easy although Porsche classic still has some decent deals on NOS. Anything re-released costs triple of NOS. I was shocked to see add on front flairs were $100 less than buying new turbo fenders complete. Why weld if you don't have to for that differential. Yet NOS rear quarter left side was in the $870 range the right was closer to $3200.

No build thread yet. Car is gutted and I am dropping the old drive train next week. I am documenting everything and when I get part way through I will post. This way I will have more time to focus on answering questions.

It is a lot of work sorting, compiling and sourcing. The time involved with gutting the car and removing the glue, sunroof etc is enormous amount of work.

Most of the RWB are just ugly cars and a travesty.
