Makes sense; most of the VAG OEM fluids are Pentosin.

From the press release:

"Also making its debut is the new Porsche Classic motor oil in 20W-50 and 10W-60 versions; together with the Porsche Development Centre, it was specially developed for air-cooled flat engines, and it offers optimal protection against wear and corrosion. Naturally, it is "Made in Germany." Starting in mid-April, Porsche Classic motor oil will be available at all global Porsche Centres. "

Glad to see the factory oil recommendations reflect that the water pumper engines needs are different than our air cooled motors. I'm curious what the pricing will be too.

I'm sure it will have a nice Porsche markup, especially since its "Made in Germany". I would be curious to send a quart of this and a quart of Brad Penn, for example, to an oil analysis lab like Blackstone and see how they stack up against each other in terms of what they contain.

Canadian retail prices are $17/L for 20w50 and $22/ L for 10w60. A bit cheaper if you buy 5L case.

Like I said I'm not paying for the logo, that's crazy expensive. But there are Porsche-heads out there (and on here I'm sure) that will justify it to themselves. "After all it is engineered by the factory and who knows these cars better ...yada yada"

I never thought that there is a debate on what oil you should use and until now had not raised the question.
So, what are people using, sounds like it should be a 20/50?

I've been running mine on 10W/40 for years, but I'm wondering if I need to change that since where I'm living now the summers a somewhat hotter than in the UK.

I've been running 20/50 in my C2 for 16 years...you need "50" in a hot climate like Texas.

This is what I'm wondering too as the summers here can be pretty brutal!

I reserve all judgement until I see independent lab testing confirming ZDDP content. Not sure if Porsche really and truly understands the air cooled engines particular need for Zinc.
