Default Porsche Classic motor oil

Finally an end to the discussion of what oil to use in our cars?

Large Porsche product line at Techno Classica 2014

Porsche Factory Press Release 18/03/2014

Stuttgart. Porsche Classic will be showing an impressive sampling of its comprehensive selection of Classic original parts at the world’s largest classic car trade show in Essen, which runs from March 26 through March 30. The centrepiece of the over 600 square metre exhibit area at Techno Classica will be the “40 years of the 911 Turbo” anniversary exhibit, which is graced by vehicles provided by Porsche Exclusive & Tequipment and the Porsche Museum.

Also making its debut is the new Porsche Classic motor oil in 20W-50 and 10W-60 versions; together with the Porsche Development Centre, it was specially developed for air-cooled flat engines, and it offers optimal protection against wear and corrosion. Naturally, it is “Made in Germany.” Starting in mid-April, Porsche Classic motor oil will be available at all global Porsche Centres.

end of what debate - the new debate will be as follows:

"whats the best oil to use if you don't want to pay 30 dollars per qrt from porsche directly?"

I think the debate will continue! Especially since they are recommending 10W 60 according to the above. I had that in the car once and it was noticeably sluggish at the top end and ran at a higher temp than normal. I will definitely not use it again.

The 20-50 seems the right one for around these parts. No way I'll pay the logo premium though. It doesn't stay in the engine long enough and I don't drive it hard enough to warrant it. If it happens to be priced near the price of a decent brand found at Canadian Tire or Wall-Mart I'd buy it but I have a feeling it won't be.

If anyone cares to send me a sample I'll spring to have a virgin oil analysis done on it; at least then we'll have an idea of exactly what Porsche think is the right concentration of this, that, and the other thing.

Need about 2oz (unused!) in a clean inert sample container.

PM me for more info if interested.

But... but... I thought they said that 0W-40 was correct for all engines going back to 1973..?

I'd love to see a Blackstone Labs report of this Classic stuff versus some Brad Penn.

I would bet it is made by Pentosin. They already sell a "20W-50 Classic" in Europe.
