I was browsing the PCA classifieds this morning... i'm surprised people are paying $60k for 964s when there are 50k mi 993 C2S for less than $80k.

You're surprised some people would rather save 20k?

I'm surprised they're so close. All these years the C2S has been regarded as the ultimate modern air-cooled. Folks on the 993 forum hold them in the same company as the 993 Turbo.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see 60k 964s. Had no idea we were getting up there for sub 100k mile cars. I'm curious what a truly well sorted 100k+ mile car would get. Not that I'm looking to sell or anything

964s have been on a tear lately. Curious to see what Hagerty results will be for the fourth quarter.

Dollar for dollar I'll take a 964. 993 does nothing for me. Well gt2 does....

you are assuming 993 > 964 and turbo are good
i had two 993c2s each lasted 12 months then i sold
i had 993TTS and 993TT. the TT in particular bored me to no end. i sold it after 900 miles one week. big loss

Thank god someone else said it.

Gotta remember that the asking price is not the sold price. So just because we keep seeing stupid asking prices doesn't mean prices are there yet. Just means those cars will either sit till prices get there or the seller will come down to the bid...

^^ Flea bay is where the cheap stuff sells. The great ones changing hands far above $50k and I know plenty of them, you never see in an ad or sell in hours.

The owners have mails sitting in their inbox "call me when you are ready to sell".

Yup. I can see a bunch of reasons in the pics alone I wouldn't have paid 50 for the eBay car.

I looked at a lot of cars and there is a huge disparity in condition of these things despite miles.

A good friend just sold his 1990 62k mile, Stone Gray/Linen C2 for $48k, never advertised. Full reseal and more, RS Clutch and Flywheel, Steve Wong Chip, KW V3's and 17" Cup 2's with brand new Cont's. Original suspension and D90's included. Car is pretty close to immaculate and based on what I've seen lately, he left some pretty serious coin on the table, me thinks.

Yes the "great ones" do...for sure. But I can tell you, and you likely already know this... Most of the cars that we see for sale, are far less than great.

Not arguing - so don't get me wrong. It just kills me everytime I see someone over pay, because the great cars are worth real money. So you pay 50-60-70 for a great car...fine. But paying the same for a car and then having to put another 10-15-20k in to make it an almost as good car? Kills me to see it happen...and it's happening to many of the current new buyers.

A great car is a great car because it doesn't need anything and it's got low miles, the correct changes and upgrades if necessary...it's buy and drive, or buy and keep. Not "buy and tear it down and send it to the shop again, and oh **** I just paid 50k and now it needs this and that and on and on"

Just sayin. For any of the "I'm new and looking for a 964" guys....there is a lot to know in order to know what to look for. Do your research.

Our moderators keep deleting the threads pointing out the less honest sellers of these cars. Not sure why as it's an important service to the community that we can share that vital information. But that said, the sellers of these cars are typically used car dealers through and through. They work on low margins and are not your buddy. Buyer beware.

Further, and I know this is wordy, so then I will shut up. Most of the guys we send these cars out to for a ppi, have limited to zero experience with 964's and particularly the c4. And then they approach the ppi with "....for a car of this age"

Ie, "yeah it's a good car for a 25 yr old car". "Normal wear for the age", etc...

There are plenty of cars that are worth 50k+, but those, like mine, regardless of miles, are brand new. And they aren't changing hands often.

Most of the cars that I see are like old girlfriends...sick of her issues and tossed aside. So she gets polished up and it's back to the bar for her...looks pretty damn fine in the dark.
