Anybody else feel guilty taking out original radio?

It does have built in mic. Some people have said it works like crap. I suppose the advantage is that unlike the radio mic that is many feet away from your mouth, the external mic is less then a foot and would not pick up all the other sounds and be more direct. From what I hear it is a must. Worth the 15 bucks.

Here's a shot of what a PO did to the doors, the hole is now so big that there is nothing to screw the fasteners too, blows me away how ignorant people can be. My thinking is to screw a piece of 3/8" SPF to the door with the right size hole and then mount the speakers to that.
Also a shot of the old door speakers and the area where the amp is going, wiring ready to go.

It looks like the space under the seat for the amp was altered by moving the modules around to make space (or maybe my eyes are playing games on me). I also had to do that to fit my amp. As a result though you can fit a good size amp in that space.
Good luck.

Seems like the speakers that will fit stock openings (without going to subwoofer route) would not really benefit from a amp unless you go super custom. I think my stock size speakers would just distort. Looks you and the other poster have gone to a bigger speaker size where amp would help. The factory amp was garbage. No power.

Here is what I did to cover up the hole. Its a 1/4" piece of MDF screwed to the inside of the door, it is flush with the rest of the inside door steel skin, so I think the door card should fit better than it did before. Will find out after lunch.
PS. The speakers going in are 6.5" but seem to fit a smaller hole.

Speaker will be flush this way, the grill will be proud, if you mount it on the back side it will suck the door card in when you mount the grill. You will see in the next hour or so when I post pictures of the finished product.

Here are a few shots of the finished product. If I say so myself, I think that looks pretty damn good. It's not stock, but close enough, and I will not bother painting the chrome rings, hardly noticeable. I am very happy with the outcome. Now on to the other side, and the amp gets here tomorrow, so I should have it all bottomed up by wednesday.
