Steve, Goin through HUs every year can add up. For now I'm looking for a way to connect an aux input to the CD-2 and update the amp. Has anyone done this? Ideally it would be nice to restomod the original CD-2. Original look with the latest technology. I too am lookin to get BC collector plates as my car will be 25 years old at the end of this year. Just think...of the upgrades that we can do with the money we save on insurance. Can't wait.

Me too! Todays head units are hideous displays of flashing lights and graphics, intended to catch the attention of teens who want to match the appearance of the body kits on their Japanese imports (not that there's anything wrong with that....). It's a big market segment, so I'm not surprised that they are catering to this group.

Definitely the most period-correct head unit for a 964 that I have ever seen! Personally, I couldn't hear music even if I wanted to (thanks to cat and primary delete); however, if I was install anything in a 964, this would probably be it. Nice find.

It looks good! Please let us know how your installation goes. If there are any problems with fitment, etc...

I'm thinking about getting a Toronto too.

I think the Toronto 420 is the best fit looks wise and for my needs of Blutooth etc. And it was cheap $180? Amazon. Plus it is a Blaupunkt that keeps with the original in name at least. I hope to get to that tonight during snow storm.

I was looking at prices for the 420BT online and Crutchfield had about the lowest ($149 w/free shipping) but their checkout cart said that model was not recommended for installing on the 964. I don't know why?? Looks like it would fit to me.

I have the Blaupunkt Toronto 420 BT in my car already and is, at the moment, installing new front speakers to match the rears I put in a few years back. I am also installing an Alpine MRV-F300 power amp, perfect fit for the area under the passenger seat. The stereo in my car had been bastardized by a previous owner, who also took out the factory amp and cut into the wire harness and wired the speakers directly from the HU. The harness from the HU to the factory harness had 5 crimped connections on each wire and then some more in the doors. Got the front speakers today, power amp should be here Tuesday.

The Crutchfield website shows that they have the 420BT in stock at $149.

I am excited to see you putting a Toronto 420 BT into the 964. I am planning to do the same in my C4 Widebody Coupe. Are you going to change the speakers as well? When I took off the speaker covers the door speakers were torn so they have to go. Hoping to use JL audio and use the same grills. My car came with the additional factory amp. Hopefully that won't be an issue. Post some pics when the head unit is installed

I put new speakers in. I am going to just go through factory amp as I am too lazy to run new speaker wires. Maybe it would not be that big of a deal to remove seat and just bypass amp and reconnect the wires under set and avoid the amp. Not sure. Can always do that later. I am just going to concentrate on getting the radio in a bit.

Didn't have this issue with mine as the previous owner had already fitted an aftermarket kenwood headunit that was pretty crap. Just updated with an alpine CDA-137BTi which has been an improvement but still not great. I replaced the speakers a while ago to pioneer 6x4 rears and infinity component fronts, all using factory grills. Overall the sound is still a bit rubbish so next step is to remove the factory amp..

I picked up those this winter. I figure I'll need the extra SPL in order to hear the music over the exhaust. But I hope both the cat and primary bypass is not too loud (especially with a rag top). Worst case it's easy to go back to stock on the exhaust though.

My car still has the factory CD-2 stereo in it. Does anyone know if that unit used an external amp, or do the wires go directly to the speakers?
