I don't have a cost but it will be the cheapest cost ever at that point. I say check it, because otherwise you'll be left wondering and a pin backing out now is so easily fixed but potentially very expensive if if goes, not to mention searching for a planetary gear if it does go.

Mine was caught before it was terminal, but I understand that the front wheels don't function normally when the gear goes, although that may be intermittant depending on whether the pin is stuck out and/or how far it is out. If you have access to the gear it's well worth checking. The peened areas are augmented with a welded spot to keep the pins in. I don't think there is news of any other weakness in this gear so once the pins are sorted you can breathe easy.
