I have a screeching sound coming from the pulley area that lasts for a second or two right after startup but goes away. If I pour water over the shim area the sound before startup the noise goes away. What can I do to address this please?

Default AC - Heater lever settings to clear foggy windows

I always forget what position to place the AC controls in to minimize interior window fogging when its wet outside. That means I am constantly moving the two levers and have a window rolled down trying to clear the windows while driving.... not the most clever approach Does anyone have an easy to remember tip ?

Turn on the AC and move the top lever to the far right. This will send de-humidified air to the windscreen. Or press the defrost button which will do all of this together.

Re: My alternator. Quote was $275 parts and labor. That's including a new alternator.

Also replacing those HORRIBLE fender gaskets that normally should take 3 minutes but are bolted on and basically impossible to replace.

On Mike's (Yahoo's) advice, I'm having the distributor belt replaced as well. Horns don't work, but seems like a low-impact enough job that I may try to tackle it myself. Unless this is a total PIA job.

New silly question:

The retraction of my seat belts is pretty flimsy on both the driver and passenger side which is annoying and with a careless wife, will eventually lead to *someone* slamming the connector bit into the door jam.

Part #1 above (9648030330370B) is both the belt and new retractor? Did they come out the factory with good retraction or is this a fools errand?

Also the loop at the top through which the belt goes from the retractor to connector bit; any idea what part/part number that is and whether it is replaceable? Mine looks pretty terrible.

Were there two different versions of the idle control valve? Look same but one was up to '90 and another further on?

Sounds like a loose belt. Are you sure they all are tight enough?

When the plastic intake and single-flap throttle valve assembly was introduced for MY91 they also stuck a muffler on the ISV and...

For reasons of standardization, a modified idle speed stabilizer is being introduced for the Carrera 2/4 (and 944 S2) with part no.964.606.160.00
Bosch no. 0 280 140 531

This idle speed stabilizer can also be retrofitted in all Carrera 2/3 engines.

Important
This idle speed stabilizer can only be recognized by its Bosch number.

Thanks for that, although I wonder how much differently it would work. It seems the earlier version is quite a bit cheaper.

Bosch: 0280140514

Although I hope this is all for nothing, but my idle started hunting again after replacing the ISV a little over a year ago. Unplugged the o2 sensor but nothing changed, then came home and unplugged the isv in the garage and idle is back to normal.

Hi guys preparing for an oil change, did it once ,
Keep turning on and off the engine until I reach the right oil level ,
Would it be possible to top up the oil gradually with the engine running and the yellow cap filler open , with out splashing oil everywhere ....:-(
Thanks

Yes, you can add oil with the engine idling and the oil cap off. That's how I always do it. I've never had the oil splash out. I have spilled oil while pouring but that was operator error. Just be careful around the spinning belts and fan.

Had one of the screws on the driver speaker grill crack off and now its just hanging by the support of the other screws. Easy swap? Or worth to take off and epoxy back together?
