Thanks John. I thought the fenders had to be removed to change the seal.
Learned something new about the 964 today. I love this place!

I'm not sure the spot weld / tack would be an issue. Surely, the seal would be put on at the factory after the parts had been welded?

John, just to confirm that you trimmed the ends of the new seals so they looked liked the removed ones before fitting? I've just removed mine and they look like your old ones. It just seems strange for Porsche to supply a part that needs modifying before fitting.

p.s. my fingers have just about recovered from removing the old ones!

Boxsey, yes I did trim them to match the ones I removed. Who knows how many times a 24 year old car has been played with over the years, I can't guarantee anything on my car wasn't touched before I replaced it. Mine came out quite easily whereas another NZ car needed a lot of lube to get the seals back in. As written before the seal is only protecting against water going in the gap, so it just has to stay in there and trimming more heavily is unlikely to affect its performance. They are cheap to replace if you're unlucky enough to lose one.

BTW Boxsey, I now have Brembo HP2000 pads on all axles. In early March we'll go on our 4,500km track tour (3 white C4s doing the first 1,000km together). When taking off my OEM pads I noted they were heavily used in just three track days. How do the Brembos wear?

I'm still on the first set that have done 2 trackdays plus about 3,000 Km on the road. I'm guessing there are two more days in the fronts and may be an extra day in the rears. I got the same as you for OEM pads so I would say they are slightly better wearing. But they're much superior for pedal feel on the track.

Thanks for the extra info on the seals. I'll get trimming tomorrow and fit them.

and after

a small change but a goodie. yes it seemed odd to trim them so much to be so similar to the old pieces but there would simply be no way for them to fit in otherwise! I guess they are supplied with extra rubber to trim for a variety of applications. next up is the other shark fin DIY you posted! I seem to be one step behind!

Nice work. Doug needs to do one of his sills. Happy to host if you guys want to tackle that.

Weekends are best for me. The only thing I need to do this weekend is get my new Z221s fitted. Good grief I love those tyres. A new set is like Christmas and birthday rolled into one.
