Default The Black Audi RS6

If anybody knows who the driver of the black Audi RS6 is who is driving round the North West (UK) please thank him for providing me with the sport of giving him a good pasting and also for helping me to realise that I dont need a performance chip, the standard car is fast enough.
Cheers,
Dave

Sorry Phil,

I meant fast enough to paste the Audi. Nothing to be proud of I know but it did make me smile

I think he was indeed a good sport, possibly shifting at around 4000rpms or so in eachgear to allow you to keep up.

To put it bluntly, that's bollocks. Unless he wasn't trying of course.

Christer,
Oh well, if you know him please thank him for not trying. It made an old car feel very happy.

This is not quite as far fetched as it seems. The RS6 comes in auto flavour - which eats hp, as does the 4-wheel drive - anyway the power to weight figures aren`t that far apart. The weight (1600kg +!!) does nothing for the performance no matter what power it may have. Being a turbo car, if the weather was warm or the car had been run for more than 5mins the chances of the RS6 producing its quoted hp are slim to none.
I have seen a few of the RS Audi`s at trackdays - they struggle to keep up with modded hot hatches - they`re rubbish really.

I have to agree with Christer, the RS6 is a very quick motor car with huge mid range acceleration. A standard 964 would find it very hard to keep up(at least in a straight line).

No offence intended guys. I know the RS6 does 124mph in 17.6 secs. I guess our cars would be in the 21.5 or so range. So only 3-4 seconds difference but at 124mph I would guess that is a lot of car lengths.

BTW, forget 1600kgs, try 1840kgs!

so I retract my statement and apologise - in a straightline I wouldn't want to mess with one but at 1840kgs I guess it would be a whole different story in the bends.

1840kgs - what do they make it out of? I can't believe that weight.....???

They are huge cars...just park next to one; actually makes you wonder how they get it down to 1840kgs...

C2 0-120 18.7s autocar see Johns porsche964 site.
If the RS6 was an auto I`ll bet its slower than that.

Christer, do you realise a Ferrari 575 Maranello weighs in at nearly 2000kgs once you have all the options?? Thats insane in my opinion! Poor old Enzo must be doing cartwheels in his grave, his philosophy was that only light cars are any good...

I'm not sure I'd agree with the weight of the car being a huge issue for the RS6 around corners.

I used to have an original D-Reg Quattro Turbo before the 964 and the weight of that was unbelievable. It was a quick car although the Porsche is noticably quicker in acceleration and top end. Despite the weight the Quattro was much quicker around corners and I assume that the reason for this being that the Audi was by far the best balanced car I have ever driven.

The Quattro handling has always been fantastic and whilst the S2 failed to match the original as a driving experience I can't see that they would have lost all of their know how over the last 20 years.

A lighter car has the advantage in corner speed. Weight is the key issue - you can`t alter the laws of physics. RS Audis, M BMW`s, AMG Mercs corner poorly cf lightweight sports cars.

Technologically, the RS6 is superb. In a straight line, there is no question of its superiority over most any 964 or 993. Around the corners, driven by the same driver with the same seat time, I would still bet the RS6 would come out tops. There is one in Singapore, and the guy who owns it was bringing some of us out for joy rides (he also has a 996 twin, 512M, 996 GT2), and I swear that car left everything for dead.....

Was this Enzo's philosophy? It was absolutely Colin Chapman's but I've never heard it said of Enzo before, and always believed Enzo was focused primarily on the engines of his cars.
