Yesterday I took my recently acquired '92 C2 Targa to the local Porsche dealer to have two leaking rear shocks replaced. Later in the day I got a message from the technician who did the work--a man whom I've known for 10 years or more and who has been a Porsche Master Technician for about 30 years--saying that he thought my engine bay sound deadening pad was made of asbestos. Surely if that's the case I'd like to have it replaced. I looked at it upon getting the car back home and in my garage, and the pad to me looks original--like its been there for 21 years. Did Porsche use asbestos? Any ideas??
Yeah, no.
Asbestos was a known dangerous stuff by '89, No way the factory would have made that pad out of Asbestos (or anyone outside China, Russia or India for that matter).
I'll be replacing mine w/ an AppBiz Track Pad version, minimum sound deadening, just works as a heat barrier. They also have more robust Deluxe versions that are OEM functionality.
