Default Plenum/intake assembly removeal

Hi guys, eying up what I need to do to fit my new fibre glass engine tin set when it arrives. One piece replaces the part which covers the whole top of the engine and also forms the rear part of the engine fan shroud. It looks like I have to remove the whole intake/plenum system to replace this part as it looks to be sandwiched between the heads and injector housings.

What the easiest way to do this? Can I just remove the injector housing retaining bolts on all 6 intakes together with the bolts holding on the fuel pressure regulator and then lift the whole lot off as one assembly?

You should be able to since you have the motor out of the car and access is not a problem.

The FPR is attached to the bottom of the center section of the intake/resonance flap area, so it'll come up w/ the intake assembly, fuel rails, intake manifolds, and all.

Thanks. Looking at the PET diagram there is a gasket seal underneath the injector housing. As there arn't two seals, I assume the big plastic cover I'm trying to remove isn't quite sandwiched between the head and housing, more like the injector housing passes through the cover. Is that right? Just want to get an idea of what I'm opening up before opening it up :-)

I'm actually in the middle of that right now. The intake manifold stacks and the shroud definitely do not interact, the shroud just goes around the stacks. The seal at the base of the intake manifold stacks had been superseded by a 993 part #.

I take back what I said earlier. I'm out here in the garage doing the dirty and the shroud does have a slight lip that goes under the intake manifolds, so the manifolds need to come off to remove the shroud.

Great success, total mess, so much degreasing needed. I think I need to go by a crate of brake cleaner.

that is the shot i needed to take prior to yanking the harness off.

i had forgotten: how to install the alternator, which way the fuel injector wiring goes and the knock sensors which were bagged and nicely labelled except i rushed through the intake install

how about save some brake cleaner and use a pressure washer?? if you wrapped the intakes in plastic, then tape then plastic then tape... then your driveway will look like mine.. like the exxon valdez had dropped by for visit

Great photos :-) thankyou for your help. Rocker covers are looking good. I'm apprehensive of removing mine. They need doing but the motor is totally bone dry so reluctant to disturb anything with an oil seal. I'll probably leave them for next years engine drop when I do the RS clutch/Fw.
