Default Scantool has stopped working

I have had the Scantool for my 964 for a number of years. Recently after an engine rebuild it has stopped working or at least it will not connect.

I have read all the forum posting - downloaded the latest software. checked that is connect to the correct com port, everything I can think of.

The only conclusion i can come up with is that the circuit board is not working. Is there any way to check the board or can someone tell me where I can buy another circuit board. I am not clever enough to build my own.

Will it connect with the CCU, ABS, or Airbag?

Do you have an oscilloscope or VOM?

Where did you originally purchase the circuit board?

I bought one off ToreB a few years back for some reason I could never get it to connect. The blue light comes on in the module when plugged into the OBD but getting it to read on the PC is the problem. I've tried everything and ultimately given up following which I sold my 993.

Now I've bought the 964 and an interface to connect with the round plug on the car I must have another go..............

No it is not onnecting at all. I thought it might be the computer so I hauled out a desktop and still it just flashed "Connecting" but it would never connect. I tried connecting with the car running and not running every combination I could think of.
No, I have a 2 post hoist but no oscilloscope and i do not even know what a VOM is.
I have had the scantool circuit board for about 4-5 years and have recollection ofwhere iI bought it from
the circuit board I believe is the same as below-mine has 2 led's both cut:

Twood, you could have a look in my Troubleshooting guides in my Scantool downloadable file on my product page. These docs are containing most of the issues using Scantool and a serial adapter. You might find some tips there.
Cheers,
Tore

Thanks Tore, I will use the information from your website and try again to get a connection. I wish there was some way that I could test the circuit board but it seems that it is cheaper to buy another board.

Regards Ken

Have you checked the fuse for the OBD diagnostics?

Fuse 12 for Diagnosis, emergency flasher and rear window wiper.

It is intact. I tested the flasher and they work and I have no rear window wiper.

I am guessing that this is the fuse/

I see your adapter PCB has several LED's, I would guess it's produced according to the original Scantool design presented here on Rennlist.
My Troubleshooting guides include test procedures, and these can be used for your adapter too.
Cheers,
Tore

I went through all your instructions as per the W7 setup.
Becuase I was able to connect directly into a serial port on an old desktop I did feel I needed to worry about the USB drivers so i did nothing with these.

I connected into Com 1 port-checked it in the device driver
I changed the com port "ini" file
I changed the "Run me to change Porsche model" to 964 model

Still I cannot connect-have I missed something?
Could it be the interface board?

I really appreciate the assistance.

regards Ken

I know what a scantool is, but this is apparently a home brew one. Can you try it on another car? And/or have someone try your car with a different scantool?

Just a thought.

The interface is about 5 years old - I bought it when I first got the car. It had been working for quite a few years but then I did an engine rebuild and it was not used for about 12-18 months. When i hooked it up a couple of weeks ago it would not connect.

Yes, I will check around and see if anyone else in my area has one or as you suggest try on anoyther 964.
