I use Delvac and haven't had any issues. I don't drive the 964 in the winter but have driven it in 20-30F weather. I always shift slowly until the car is warmed-up.

We use the Delvac in the race cars with a change every 10-15hrs. My personal street car has 160k and has had only a few changes of the gearbox oil with Delvac ever since I bought the car and I have no issues shifting, even in the clold NY winter.

This sure beats the method that I use...fill until it drips all over the undertray!

Ditto this. If Geoff, Gamroth, Weiner and none less than Matt (Guard Transmissions) use it, so will I.

LOVE the bent pipe cleaner trick, but my finger works well also.

I think we started narrowing down the differences that 964s were experiencing with Delvac to the steel synchros that you guys are all running versus brass in the normal transmissions on the street cars? And all of those problems that we were experiencing went away once we started using the more expensive factory Mobil PTX fill?

Any internal work on the transmission?

Both SWEPCO & Red Line offer excellent gear oil for Porsche manual transmissions:
Red Line 75W90 NS
SWEPCO 201

The Red Line 75W90 NS is used in applications that do not have a clutch type limited slip. If you do have a clutch type limited slip, you'll want the 75W90 as it has a friction modifier to prevent LS "chatter"

I need to change the type of fluid I've been using.... I've been using standard Mobil 1 75W-90 Gear Lube (not Delvac). After 120k miles (which a fair bit of track time mixed in), my 2nd to 3rd brass syncro is quite troublesome...

Is there info that says Delvac is easy on LSD and tough on syncros?

my 993tt has the stock tranny internals and shifts fine with delvac, even in the middle of winter

Erick. Give Steve Weiner a call and ask him what he would recommend, and then ask him to ship you the product of choice.

Oh, I already know what I want.... steel syncros! But Delvac is barely in my budget right now, so I may need to settle. Anyway, good advice.

Delvac will help the syncros grab - as well as the LSD.

Erick, I have a gallon here, pay shipping and it's yours.

How can I turn that down! My soft, brass syncros and I thank you for your generosity...

There are enough 964 & 993 owners that have had problems with SHC that were only resolved when switching to the stupid expensive dealer lube and alternatives. People can benefit from our $$$ mistakes or not.
