Default Transmission lube

Good morning,
I am planning on changing my transmission lube this weekend and wanting to get opinions on what brand everyone recommends?
I have used Mobil 1 on my 944s with good results. I understand this is not a good choice for the 964s however. Locally I can get Red Line products. I have had some suggest Swepco but I am not sure I can get it by this weekend locally.
Depending on what I hear back I may be better off waiting for the best choice?
TIA

Currently, I'm running Swepco 201 in both of my cars. I've also run Delvac synthetic. Both seem to work well with the 964 G50 transmissions.

Unfortunately, neither is available locally in my area so I try to keep a gallon or two on hand. In fact, I just changed the tranny fluid on my cabrio on Saturday. It was the last step in the 240K mile service (60K maintenance tasks).

THIS is what you should use. Swepco is another good choice. No affiliation...........

Thanks for the response Rocket Rob and crg53. Most I have talked with seem to use Swepco. Not sure if I can get is locally though? A local shop does offer Red Line. Anyone using this in their 964?

I tried RedLine once. It was ok but I switched to Swepco based on advice from here. I placed my order for another 2 gallons of Swepco yesterday. Its shipping from California and will be here Thursday this week. I suspect you could get some delivered if you order today.

I ordered from Pelican but many of our sponsors carry it.

If you are driving in Minnesota I would avoid Delvac. It does not handle even slightly cold temperatures well at all.

UPS Ground shipping will probably be 4 days to MN from a good bit of the US.

I use Redline in my C2 & C4...amazing difference in what ever was in there.
Had a friend try it as well in his 89 C4 same fantastic results. A well respected LA shop owner told me "Redline is the best damn transmission fluid period" Haa. When it comes time to changing fluid again, I will use Redline. Ordered from manufact, arrived in 2 days.

I used Swepco 201 in my 70E and 82SC with great results too.

Either are fine, give Redline a try.

Thanks Jason@Paragon for hooking me up with the Swepco 201!
I am not sure what is in the car currently but I am pretty sure it is not Swepco. I will report back on what difference I feel.
Thanks!

Thanks!
just be aware that 'feel' does not translate to lubrication protection.

there are some other threads here with some gear experts adding their comments to trans oils recommendations.

Good point sml!
I did see the DIY on how to change out the fluid. Pretty straight forward. One question I have is how do you know when you have put enough fluid back in the transmission?

Most fill until the fluid is running out. I use a felt pipe cleaner and bend it at a 90 degree angle. Insert in the fill hole and use it as a dip stick

Thanks js78911SC! that is kinda of what I thought might be the best method. I used to use a allen wrench for my gauge.
Nice color C2 by the way!
